Comfort, Community, and Care: A 10th Grade Sanctuary

My Project

My Students

My 10th-grade scholars are resilient, thoughtful, and creative high schoolers navigating a critical year of their education.

As our school community navigates an impending closure, my goal is to make our classroom a steadfast place of stability, warmth, and joy. High school can be demanding, and students learn best when their fundamental physical, emotional, and sensory needs are met first. They deserve a space where they feel truly seen, supported, and cared for every single day.

My Project

This project focuses on two essential pillars of classroom well-being: personal care & nourishment, and a dedicated reading & calm-down space.

Care & Comfort Station: Transitioning through a long school day requires energy and dignity. Funding for personal care essentials—such as hygiene wipes and deodorant—alongside bulk snacks ensures that no student has to focus on an empty stomach or lack of basic supplies. Having these items discreetly accessible removes barriers to learning and builds a culture of care.

Sensory Reading Nook & Calm Corner: High schoolers need a dedicated space to decompress, read independently, and process their emotions. Adding a soft rug, plush pillows, a supportive bean bag, and gentle warm lighting will transform a corner of our classroom into a soothing, sensory-friendly haven. This space will give students a quiet retreat when overwhelmed and an inviting space to foster a love for reading.

By funding these items, you are helping construct a comfortable, secure environment where 10th graders can focus on their growth, support one another, and thrive through a transitional school year.
