My Project

Welcome to our vibrant 4th-grade classroom! My students are curious, energetic, and eager to explore the world around them. In 4th grade, readers undergo a critical transition: they move from learning how to read to reading to learn and expand their horizons. Our classroom is a diverse community of learners with a wide range of reading levels, interests, and backgrounds. They thrive when given stories with relatable characters, exciting adventures, and meaningful life lessons.

My Project

To foster a lifelong love of reading, I am requesting a classroom set of four extraordinary novels: Wonder by R.J. Palacio, The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate, The Wild Robot by Peter Brown, and Number the Stars by Lois Lowry.

Having class sets of these books will transform our ELA instruction from basic skill drills into deep, collaborative novel studies where every student has a copy to follow along, annotate, and hold.

These four titles were specifically selected to build both academic literacy and social-emotional growth:

Wonder will lay the foundation for our classroom community by teaching empathy, kindness, and perspective-taking.

The One and Only Ivan will engage students through short, poetic chapters while sparking critical discussions about animal welfare and advocacy.

The Wild Robot will bridge our literacy time with science lessons on adaptation and technology, keeping reluctant readers hooked with fast-paced action.

Number the Stars will serve as a gentle, age-appropriate gateway into historical fiction, teaching historical awareness, bravery, and moral courage.
