Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Weather plays a critical role in daily safety and decision-making in our community, particularly in areas affected by changing conditions, storms, and extreme temperatures. This project empowers students to serve as community weather communicators by collecting accurate, local weather data and sharing clear, reliable information that supports preparedness and awareness.

Using a professional-grade wireless weather station, students will gather real-time data on temperature, wind speed and direction, rainfall, humidity, and barometric pressure.

Rather than relying on generalized forecasts, students will analyze hyper-local conditions and track patterns over time. This process helps them understand how weather impacts transportation, outdoor activities, and safety decisions made by families and community members each day.

Students will transform this data into accessible weather updates and safety messages designed for a public audience. With the support of camera lens kits, wireless microphones, and a teleprompter, students will create short weather briefings and public service announcements that communicate information clearly and responsibly. These tools ensure that all students can participate confidently, including those who benefit from visual structure and guided speaking supports.

A key focus of this project is community responsibility. Students will learn that how information is communicated matters just as much as the data itself. They will practice explaining weather risks in calm, accurate language, reinforcing trust and encouraging preparedness rather than fear. Night-vision observation tools will further extend learning by allowing students to explore how technology supports monitoring and safety in low-light or emergency conditions.

By connecting science learning to real community needs, this project shows students that knowledge has purpose beyond the classroom. Families benefit from student-created weather updates rooted in local data, while students gain confidence, civic awareness, and pride in contributing to community well-being. This project turns weather science into a shared resource that promotes safety, preparedness, and informed decision-making.
