Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our Title I elementary school, students are facing a significant change to their physical education experience due to budget cuts for the 2026–2027 school year. Our school was forced to eliminate our PE teacher position, which means general education teachers will now provide PE instruction twice a week in addition to their classroom responsibilities.

Even with these changes, we are committed to making sure our students continue to have meaningful opportunities to stay active, build teamwork, and develop healthy habits.

One of the most loved activities at our school is soccer. Students are excited to play, learn skills, and work together on the field, but our current equipment is old, worn out, and not enough to support all students safely and effectively.

We also offer an after-school soccer program for our 3rd–5th grade students. These students practice regularly and compete against other local elementary schools. This program helps students build confidence, leadership, sportsmanship, and school pride, and it is something many of our students look forward to each year.

Our school serves a high-needs community, with more than three-fourths of our students qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch. Because of ongoing budget constraints, we do not have the funds to replace or update our soccer equipment, including balls, nets, and jerseys.

With your support, our students will be able to continue participating in engaging PE lessons and after-school soccer. These materials will help ensure every student has the opportunity to move, play, and grow through teamwork and physical activity.
