My Project

My third and fourth grade reading intervention students are developing readers who need additional small-group instruction and practice to strengthen their literacy skills. Many struggle with phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension which can affect their confidence and motivation to read. These students benefit from explicit instruction, repeated practice and encouragement. My goal is to help them experience success, become more confident readers, and develop empathy and a genuine love of reading.

Hands-on, engaging activities are the best way to develop growth and confidence during daily small-group instruction.

Manipulatives such as the advancing phonics word work set will allow students practice in blending, sound matching, phonics skills, word building and spelling. The magnetic wands and magnetic chips give students opportunities to strengthen their phonemic awareness skills. The magnetic dry erase elkonin boxes and magnetic alphabet chips give students additional practice with letter/sound correspondence, word building and spelling. All reading skills are interconnected to make fluency and vocabulary stronger and making understanding with reading comprehension the ultimate goal. These materials will help achieve these goals during hands-on reading intervention activities that capture the interest of every student.
