Many of my students struggle with overstimulation caused by harsh fluorescent lighting. By creating a softer, warmer environment, students experience less visual strain and more comfort during lessons. This simple shift in atmosphere helps them engage more fully in reading, writing, discussions, and independent work.\r\n\r\nA calmer environment directly contributes to stronger academic performance. When students feel comfortable, they are more confident, more willing to participate, and better able to sustain focus. Soft lighting supports students' ability to regulate their emotions, maintain attention, and stay present during instruction. This improved focus leads to deeper comprehension, more effective learning habits, and increased academic success.\r\n\r\nBeyond academics, these lighting improvements positively influence students' overall well-being. A warm, inviting classroom signals safety, belonging, and care—students feel valued when their learning environment is thoughtfully designed. This project creates a space where students can relax, connect, and thrive socially and emotionally. Your support ensures that every student can learn in an environment that nurtures both their minds and their hearts.","fullyFundedDate":1761857154956,"projectUrl":"project/lighting-the-way-to-focused-learning/9857601/","projectTitle":"Lighting the Way to Focused Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Knudson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10329489"},{"teacherId":9935224,"projectId":9770552,"letterContent":"When the boxes arrived, my students could hardly wait to open them! The excitement was contagious, especially when they saw the new seating cushions and chair bands. Students immediately started trying them out, determining which setup helped them stay focused better during lessons. The reading tools were just as big of a hit; students now use the color overlays and finger pointers daily to help track text, and they love how much easier it feels to follow along when reading aloud or independently.\r\n\r\nThe rolling stool was another favorite addition -- both for me and my students! Our construction math group had an absolute blast assembling it. It has already made a huge difference in my ability to move between desks and work alongside students without having to kneel on the floor (my knees greatly appreciate the break!). The line-creator stamp has also been a game-changer for several students who struggle with handwriting, giving them the structure and organization they need to write legibly and neatly when their papers come without lines (text boxes, etc.).\r\n\r\nOur next steps include using these supports as we move into a big literary analysis unit. Students will be reading and writing every day, and these new tools will continue to help them stay engaged, comfortable, and focused on learning. Your generosity has made a real difference in my students' confidence and independence, and I can't thank you enough for supporting our classroom and helping every student feel successful.","fullyFundedDate":1760309798669,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-and-reading-supports-fo/9770552/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating and Reading Supports for Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Seiler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9935224_orig.jpg?crop=985,985,x0,y72&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741100324312","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jadeseiler"},{"teacherId":9935224,"projectId":9758713,"letterContent":"When my students opened the boxes of books you generously purchased, they literally said it felt like Christmas morning. Each one knew which books had been chosen with them in mind and clutched them like precious gifts. For many of my students, reading has never felt easy, but these high-interest books have changed that. They have sparked curiosity and laughter, and even led to friendly competition about who can finish first.\r\n\r\nIn our reading class, students spend every day growing foundational literacy skills, building vocabulary, practicing phonemic awareness, mapping sounds to symbols, and developing fluency through accuracy and prosody. These new books have allowed them to apply those skills in real, meaningful ways. Students are learning to summarize, determine themes, make predictions, and infer meaning while reading texts that they actually enjoy. They have loved reading and rereading the \"Choose Your Adventure\" Goosebumps books and choosing different versions each time, improving their inferencing and comprehension along the way! I have one student who is fascinated by dinosaurs and proudly carries The Dinosaur Book everywhere he goes. Others who used to avoid reading are now asking if they can take books home over the weekend.\r\n\r\nThe impact of your generosity goes far beyond adding books to a shelf. You've helped create a community of readers for my students who are beginning to see themselves as capable, confident, and curious learners. For some, these are the first books they've ever read for pleasure. Watching them light up when they talk about their favorite stories has reminded me why reading matters so deeply. Thank you for believing in my students and for helping them discover that reading can be both empowering and joyful.","fullyFundedDate":1758812214808,"projectUrl":"project/high-interest-books-for-struggling-middl/9758713/","projectTitle":"High-Interest Books for Struggling Middle School Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Seiler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9935224_orig.jpg?crop=985,985,x0,y72&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741100324312","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jadeseiler"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_50405","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":135,"numTeachers":8,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":90,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":76.5,"schoolId":50405,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Tongue River Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Tongue River Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wyoming/sheridan-county-school-district-1/tongue-river-middle-school/50405"}
