As an elementary school counselor, I work with students of many different ages who are still learning how to identify their emotions, communicate what they are feeling, and work through difficult situations. The books have been especially helpful with my younger students because stories give them a developmentally appropriate way to recognize and name emotions. We can talk about what a character is feeling, why they might be feeling that way, and what they could do to work through those emotions. This often makes it easier for students to begin talking about their own experiences and feelings. \r\n\r\nThe LEGO sets have also been a wonderful addition to my small counseling groups. Students have used them for activities that require them to work together, communicate, share ideas, problem-solve, and practice being a good teammate. These activities allow students to practice important social skills while doing something that feels fun and natural to them. I have loved watching students figure out how to compromise, encourage one another, and work through disagreements while completing a project together. \r\n\r\nHaving these new resources has given me more ways to meet students where they are. Elementary students often learn best when they can read, play, create, and talk rather than simply being told what to do. These materials have helped make my counseling office a place where students can practice important emotional and social skills in ways that are engaging and meaningful to them. I am incredibly thankful to everyone who helped make this project possible and invested in the social and emotional growth of our students.","fullyFundedDate":1785331391415,"projectUrl":"project/big-feelings-bright-futures/10382804/","projectTitle":"Big Feelings, Bright Futures","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Braun","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10552987"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39372","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":375,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":44,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":85,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":0.0,"schoolId":39372,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Prairie Wind Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Prairie Wind Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wyoming/campbell-county-school-district-1/stocktrail-elementary-school/39372"}
