Because of your generous donations, we were able to begin a World Drumming unit in our 3-6th grade music classes. Having more instruments for the students to play means that more students can be actively engaged at one time.\r\n\r\nThe 5th and 6th grade classes have been able to learn a 6 part drum ensemble that will accompany an African folk song for our Spring Showcase. We are taking those drum ensemble skills and adding some drum beats and ukulele to Bob Marley's Three Little Birds, too. The 3rd and 4th grade classes have been working on a Latin American song for the Spring Showcase, and have been exploring Latin American rhythms with the drums. The Kindergarten-2nd grade students have benefitted from your generous gifts as well. We had been exploring timbre (the quality of a musical sound) in February and March. With the addition of these instruments, there were more sounds to explore.\r\n\r\nWithout your help, these experiences would have been much harder to achieve. My students and I are grateful for your support in growing our music program and adding more musical opportunities.","fullyFundedDate":1734916125273,"projectUrl":"project/scarves-djembes-and-hand-drums-oh-my/8737449/","projectTitle":"Scarves, Djembes, and Hand Drums, Oh My!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lynch","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9606463_orig.jpg?crop=192,192,x0,y20&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734709487779","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9606463"},{"teacherId":4983046,"projectId":5940530,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support in providing new books for our scholars! These materials have transformed our classroom into a literacy-rich environment where scholars are not only improving their reading skills but also developing a genuine love for books. Reading in our classroom is an interactive and engaging experience—scholars participate in independent reading, group discussions, and written reflections that help deepen their comprehension and critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nThrough these new texts, scholars have been able to explore a variety of themes, cultures, and perspectives, making reading more relatable and meaningful. They are learning to analyze characters, identify central themes, and make connections between literature and their own lives. Many scholars have expressed excitement about having access to books that reflect their interests and identities, which has significantly increased their motivation to read.\r\n\r\nOne scholar in particular, who previously struggled with engagement in reading, has become eager to participate in discussions because he finally found a book that resonated with him. Moments like these highlight the power of literature and how the right books can spark curiosity and confidence.
