These may seem like small necessities, but having them readily available helps remove barriers that can make it difficult for students to focus, participate, and feel comfortable at school. Students can access period products privately without the embarrassment of having to ask, and students who are hungry can get a snack so they have the energy they need to make it through the school day.\r\n\r\nAs a school nurse, I see firsthand how much these basic needs can affect a student's ability to learn. A student who is worried about not having a period product or whose stomach is growling because they haven't eaten is not able to give their full attention to the classroom. Providing these resources allows students to take care of their needs quickly and discreetly and return to class feeling more comfortable, confident, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these donations show our students that their school community cares about them as whole people. They know that when they need something, they have a safe place to go and someone who will help. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated to these projects. Before, students who unexpectedly started their period or ran out of supplies had to come to the health office and ask for what they needed. For some students, that simple request could feel embarrassing, uncomfortable, or even prevent them from asking for help at all.\r\n\r\nNow, students can access period products privately and independently when they need them. This has helped remove the embarrassment and stigma that can come with asking for these basic necessities. Students can take care of their needs discreetly and return to class feeling more comfortable and confident. Thanks to your donations we have made these available in all the nurse office bathrooms. \r\n\r\nOne of the biggest impacts has been knowing that students no longer have to worry about whether they have the supplies they need during the school day. They can focus on learning, participating in activities, and being with their classmates instead of worrying about an unexpected period or not having access to a product.\r\n\r\nOur goal moving forward is to continue making these products readily available so that every student who needs them can access them without hesitation.
