My students used the paper, Post-it notes, pencils, and markers to create interactive booklets as they read, giving them a place to record their thinking, mark important moments, collect evidence, and respond creatively to the text. Instead of simply reading and answering questions, students were able to physically interact with their books and their ideas. I saw more students participating in discussions, including students who are sometimes hesitant to share their thinking in front of the class.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was seeing students share their booklets with one another during our literature circle discussions. They were excited to show their groupmates what they had noticed, drawn, written, or marked in their books, and their notes often became the starting point for deeper conversations about characters, themes, and important moments in the story. The materials may seem simple, but they gave my students additional ways to express their thinking and made our reading experience much more engaging and collaborative.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building on these literature circle discussions as students move toward deeper analysis of their novels. Future students will use this experience, evidence and ideas to develop more thoughtful written responses about their books. Because of your generosity, my students have the materials they need to make reading an active experience, one where they can read, think, create, discuss, and, most importantly, see that their ideas have value.","fullyFundedDate":1774050634539,"projectUrl":"project/literature-circles/10092867/","projectTitle":"Literature Circles","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hassan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10432391"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38105","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":716,"numTeachers":48,"percentFrplEligible":35,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":73,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":6,"gradesServed":"7 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":91.7,"schoolId":38105,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about P.J.
