My 2ndβ5th grade striving readers were thrilled to have new books to choose from β especially ones that weren't fiction. The wide range of topics and levels has sparked a renewed excitement for reading in our room. The students have been especially drawn to the real photographs in many of the books, which make the information feel more authentic and help them connect what they're reading to the real world.\r\n\r\nOne favorite has been A Cat in a Bag β the students love the pictures and laugh each time we read it together. Another favorite, Glass, led to curiosity about how glass is made and even inspired us to look at glass mosaics and glass blowing. One of my most reluctant readers has started picking up books about apes and robots on his own β something that hasn't happened before!\r\n\r\nThese books have truly increased the level of engagement and excitement when it's time to read. The best part is knowing they'll continue to be read this year and also support future striving readers for years to come. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has made an incredible difference, and I'm deeply grateful for the joy, engagement, and motivation you've helped bring to my students.","fullyFundedDate":1748392802107,"projectUrl":"project/big-bang-from-books/9332595/","projectTitle":"Big Bang from Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Benes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9351054"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37976","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":304,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":83,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"4 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":71.7,"schoolId":37976,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Central Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Central Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/school-district-of-rhinelander/central-elementary-school/37976"}
