The percussionists even noticed that it was the same color as the marching toms and the marching snares (\"we'll match!\"). Quite often actually. \r\n\r\nThese three new jhorns will supplement the six I already have for my classroom, enabling me to allow more students to play. Several years ago, we networked to create a list of which books should be read which years, and tried to coordinate it with the new ELA (English Language Arts) curriculum we just got. However, while we often had enough for small groups of 3-5, we didn't have classroom sets of several of these novels. Your gift allowed me to get a classroom set of \"The Boy in the Striped Pajamas\", a story about a young boy whose father gets assigned to run the Auschwitz camp. It will allow us to have a great many thought-provoking conversations as we read through this novel. \r\n\r\nI'm also excited to share the other texts for small group use afterwards, to expand their knowledge and critical thinking skills. While the books are all centered around this time period, they deal with other facets of WWII life (the girls who were assigned to cracking the Enigma code, an American family on board a ship that was torpedoed, a young person who made the choice to sabotage the bombs she was assigned to make for the Nazi's and more) as well as books written at all different reading levels (including a couple of the \"I Survived\" books turned into graphic novels---think comic books). We also had no place to store them without fear of water damage. So we worked with the school to purchase new ones, using some of our hard earned fundraiser money. We then realized that we wanted to keep these items and the other gear we had (including stands and microphones) in good condition for years to come, because who knows when we would have the funds to do so again. That's where this project came in. The covers for the new speakers are SO nice. The padding, how to open them, etc. And to have a case for microphones instead of dumping them in a box? So thankful! Because these bells are separate bars, I can take out just the ones I want. We can play chords along with recorders. We can play color coded songs (making it easier for special needs kids to play along). We can divide into small centers where kids can move from one activity to another. We can play that quality of music, but it just won't \"sound right\" to the judges, who are used to hearing some songs a certain way. I am looking forward to doing some sight reading next week since our Christmas concert is tonight. These pieces are class C & Class M in the WSMA required Concert Band list. While we have some music in both those classes, every year's band is different based on the number of students and what instruments they play, and ability levels. This flex music will help with that, expecially since in the last couple years since COVID, WSMA added a Flex Music class, which is still evolving and growing as more composers work their magic. This adaptable (Flex) music allows smaller bands like ours with unique instrumentation the chance to perform at the difficulty level they can handle without losing the integrity of the piece.
