We also had no place to store them without fear of water damage. So we worked with the school to purchase new ones, using some of our hard earned fundraiser money. We then realized that we wanted to keep these items and the other gear we had (including stands and microphones) in good condition for years to come, because who knows when we would have the funds to do so again. That's where this project came in. The covers for the new speakers are SO nice. The padding, how to open them, etc. And to have a case for microphones instead of dumping them in a box? So thankful! You have helped ensure that our purchases will go a long way. Because these bells are separate bars, I can take out just the ones I want. We can play chords along with recorders. We can play color coded songs (making it easier for special needs kids to play along). We can divide into small centers where kids can move from one activity to another. The bells include two plastic mallets, however, when you get 35 4th graders playing metal bells at the same time with plastic mallets, the sound is less than pleasant! Oftentimes we don't have the instrumentation needed for playing pieces that are standards (and are really good). We can play that quality of music, but it just won't \"sound right\" to the judges, who are used to hearing some songs a certain way. We've already sight read a few of them (with my high school band), and some will make excellent Memorial Day pieces as well. I love it when a family makes a choice to purchase an instrument for their child, but for some, this is a huge sacrifice. Many of our trombones have seen better days and their slides don't slide nicely (the biggest issue). While this is ONE trombone, it is one more student who will be able to play trombone for years to come. I am looking forward to doing some sight reading next week since our Christmas concert is tonight. These pieces are class C & Class M in the WSMA required Concert Band list. While we have some music in both those classes, every year's band is different based on the number of students and what instruments they play, and ability levels. This flex music will help with that, expecially since in the last couple years since COVID, WSMA added a Flex Music class, which is still evolving and growing as more composers work their magic. This adaptable (Flex) music allows smaller bands like ours with unique instrumentation the chance to perform at the difficulty level they can handle without losing the integrity of the piece. This project brought us three new flutes into our band room. It's like Christmas in here! A couple of our flutes work, but have their issues: a screw keeps working it's way out or a foot or head joint are too loose so we use a miniscule piece of transparent tape on to keep it from falling out (and creating more damage). These three Jean Paul flutes, while not the top of the line, are perfectly affordable instruments for young students. They look beautiful (you should have seen the 6th graders eyes!!!), and play nicely. Some even wanted to practice more! Ha! Originally I was going to let my HS Sophomore use this new flute and use her flute (which we would put a piece of tape to keep the foot joint on) to a younger student. However, in the meantime, another flute totally stopped working and the repair shop deemed it not worth fixing. I let her use mine. Then this project was funded! Yet that flute wasn't available. So I asked for 3 other flutes (less expensive). Also not available. Finally I did a special request and was able to get a total of 3 new Jean Paul Flutes (a decent mid-range flute). I was suddenly able to let my sophomore use a new flute, and my MS girl (the one opening the flute in the pictures) a new flute as well. She was SOOOO excited.
