So much of my students' day happens on a screen, and your gift has given them something they truly needed: time to put devices down and connect with each other face to face. Students have been putting together puzzles, building with Legos, working on diamond art, crafting felt succulents, and playing board games and card games. More than anything, these materials have given them a reason to sit together, talk, and get to know one another. I've watched students who rarely interact gather around a puzzle, trade pieces, and share a laugh when a section finally comes together.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were genuinely excited. Teenagers can be hard to impress, but they couldn't wait to dig in. Now the board games and cards are some of the most requested items in the room. Students are teaching each other new games, taking turns, working through disagreements, and practicing patience and good sportsmanship. These are real social skills, and they're building them naturally, without even realizing it.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we'll keep using these resources to strengthen our classroom community and give students a healthy break from screens. The walking pad is placed by the standing desk to allow students to walk while completing work. The bands on my chairs are also very helpful for students who have just a little bit of extra energy to get out. \r\nMy students loved helping me put together everything and trying it all out for the first time. I have had no issues with ANYONE being disrespectful towards these items, or using them dangerously. So far the students have really enjoyed the variety of snacks that are available. \r\nI tend to get most requests before lunch (especially if they do not like the lunch choice for the day) and at the end of the day when energy is low. A student who typically struggles to stay focused quietly pedaled the entire time and, for the first time, finished a full page of writing without needing redirection. It was a small shift, but a meaningful one. He was eventually able to complete a research paper a few weeks later by using the FitDesk to help him focus.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, students were immediately curious and excited. There was a lot of interest in trying everything out, but what stood out most was how quickly the novelty turned into normal use. Instead of being a distraction, the movement has become part of how they learn. Students who often feel restless now have an outlet, and that has helped create a calmer, more focused classroom overall.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these tools during longer assignments, including research projects and writing tasks that require sustained attention. The 4th and 5th grade students also each received a hygiene starter kit after attending the presentation.\r\n\r\nAny extra supplies will be available for all students if they are in need of them throughout the rest of the school year. Having these supplies available and given to the students is a wonderful thing to be able to provide. I have already had several students utilize this, especially the pop-tarts, throughout the day when they need some extra sustenance. This has not only impacted students in my classroom, but also some students who are not on my caseload, which is incredible. \r\n\r\nI have the snacks in a cupboard where they are out of sight but easily accessible. Students know I am all about them having food, and I often require them to take something from the snack cupboard if they say they did not eat lunch. They have started to get after each other as well if they mention not eating, telling each other to ask me to if they can grab something from the snack cupboard. \r\n\r\nMy students are great at monitoring how much they take and not taking advantage of the snacks. They know not to take a \"big\" snack if lunch is coming up, and not to take a ton of snacks every day, as we need to make sure there is enough for other students. \r\n\r\nThe snack cupboard not only helps my students be fueled throughout the day, but also helps them learn moderation, respect, and the importance of having access to food. Any student can take something from the snack cupboard, so no one feels \"weird\" going in there.
