As a high school teacher, I want students to feel that school is a place where they belong—not simply a place where they come to attend classes. These materials are helping us create colorful displays throughout our classroom and school that highlight students, their accomplishments, their interests, and the positive things happening in our school community.\r\n\r\nOur teacher assistant students chose the colors and were excited to see that they arrived. They immediately began talking about ideas for displays and how we could use the different colors to make our bulletin boards and hallways more inviting. For high school students, school environments can sometimes feel very institutional, so even something as simple as colorful bulletin boards can make a space feel more personal and inviting. One group is already focusing on a display to celebrate Homecoming and student photography.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue creating displays that showcase student work, recognize accomplishments, highlight school activities, and give students a voice in how their school looks and feels. We want students to see themselves reflected in the spaces they walk through every day. As the school year continues, we will change and update our displays so that they remain current and continue celebrating the students and community that make our school special.\r\n\r\nThank you to our donors for helping us make our school a brighter, more welcoming place for students. We opened everything together as a group and discussed how the supplies would be used to support our classroom community. The excitement continued as students realized we now have a bigger variety of items to share during next year's shoutouts and celebrations. The hair brushes were especially popular and were immediately picked up by students who were thrilled that we could offer them. We live in a low-income school district and it is not uncommon for students to go without basic school supplies or hygiene supplies essential for success and confidence.\r\n\r\nWe received feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes and toothpaste, as well as body wipes for students to use as they need them. These supplies are made available on an as needed basis and students regularly make use of them. The students who are in need of hygiene supplies specifically are very thankful to have this as a provided assistance.\r\n\r\nWithout these donations, the emotional well-being of our students would suffer.
