With that comes more academic success and time to enjoy each other's company. Having a basketball and football for outside has been amazing. In the past we would borrow one from the gym teacher, but sometimes they were in use. Afterschool flag football didn't have a football for practice, and I was able to loan them mine for a while as well. All of these supplies are so appreciated and have helped a lot of kids already.\r\n\r\nA lot of students have tried the double Dutch jump rope. This was new for them, and they were very encouraging with each other. We did the marble race once so far and will return to it again. It was a fun activity and also a learning opportunity in how to work together. I will be sharing the marble race game with our support staff to work with small groups as well. It's a great tool! \r\n\r\nThe tattoos were a big hit with kids, and of course the candy too. I appreciate having small treats to encourage them when they help each other, work well together and persevere through challenges. Thank you so much for making it possible for our students to earn breaks and opportunities for teamwork!","fullyFundedDate":1757868300283,"projectUrl":"project/recess-and-team-building/9706537/","projectTitle":"Recess and Team Building","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Claire","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10227324"},{"teacherId":10227324,"projectId":9656230,"letterContent":"As packages arrived students were excited to help carry them to the classroom. They were definitely curious about what was in them and who sent them. \r\n\r\nWe have completed our first science unit about weather, and we are starting our next unit about energy. Many of the lab supplies I requested will be needed very shortly and I am very excited to have these ready to go! \r\n\r\nIn our first unit, students loved making the density columns. The food coloring has been useful for other labs as well. For example, we visualized convection with hot (red) and cold (blue) water mixing together. When learning about sublimation, students added food coloring to dry ice to see if they could change the color of the vapor (unfortunately not, but we were glad we could try!). \r\n\r\nMost recently, we used tape and glue for our marble roller coasters. This was a fun project that helped demonstrate potential energy transforming into kinetic energy. And it was made possible by you! I am very grateful to have exciting lab materials to use this year along with very need items like meter sticks, glue, sticky notes, etc. All of these things add up quickly and it is a relief to have them! Resources like the jump ropes will build crucial skills such as coordination, rhythm, and perseverance, while the exercise dice and Toss N Talk Ball will make movement breaks spontaneous and fun, offering vital outlets to manage energy and stress. We look forward to incorporating these tools into our Girls on the Run program as well in the spring!!\r\n\r\nThe large parachute is a powerful tool for fostering a sense of teamwork and communication, requiring students to collaborate and anticipate each other's actions. Furthermore, the Five-Minute Activity Books are excellent for developing leadership skills and social-emotional growth through quick, movement-based activities, strengthening the classroom community and individual self-awareness. We have used several activities in our leadership and belonging small group.","fullyFundedDate":1750256185792,"projectUrl":"project/mind-body-boost-exercise-for-student-we/9416964/","projectTitle":"Mind-Body Boost: Exercise for Student Well-Being","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Paige","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9776553_orig.jpg?crop=1817,1817,x485,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1727653759655","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9776553"},{"teacherId":9776553,"projectId":9297379,"letterContent":"Your generous donation to our literacy project has provided our students with a diverse collection of engaging, high-interest texts that are significantly enhancing their literacy skills. These new resources allow us to introduce complex skills, such as inferring character motivation and expanding vocabulary through context clues, in an accessible format. Crucially, the books support the mentorship component of our project: older students serve as \"Reading Mentors,\" utilizing the materials to model fluent, expressive reading and effective questioning for their younger \"Reading Buddies,\" thereby building both leadership skills and empathy. The increased student engagement is tangible; students who were previously reluctant, like those drawn to the new graphic novels, are now actively participating, and natural leaders are thriving in their mentorship roles. These kits were able to assist families in starting the year off right and also creating a sense of trust with the school. They were incredibly grateful and touched. For many students, having access to hygiene items and basic supplies is not something they can always count on. Their faces lit up when they realized these items were just for them — no judgment, no stress. Some even asked if they could bring items home to share with siblings, which shows how much these resources impact not only the individual students but their entire families.
