With every growing research supporting the idea that for students to learn, teachers need to engage and address the whole child we have found more ways to use these resources than we even expected! We have provided opportunities to maintain attention and focus while not being required to sit still or disrupt others around us as well as learn new social skills. The Dot books have so many fun extention projects and ideas that I have been able to explore and am even more excited to continue to grow with all 3 grade levels of kids I will be working with this year.\r\nThe students I work with come to school having limited exposure to learning with books and hands on materials (many know concepts primarily from youtube videos). Giving them a variety of materials has proven to be a fun new experience for all of us. What I thought would function primarily as fidgets for students who need to move to attend, quickly expanded into students who need to build hand strength and dextarity (the axolotls were huge for this)!\r\nWe have loved learning new social emotional skills language while we meet the fun dot characters and I even \"caught\" kids using the words they learned in the stories and extension activitie when playing with other students. A pack of less than 10 books is having a lasting impact!\r\nSo, again, I would just like to say... Thank YOU! Thank you for seeing the needs and believing in the process. The students are also looking forward to selling the flowers they grew over the summer during our fall open house.\r\n\r\nOne of the highlights of our project was a birdhouse judging activity where students created birdhouses using only recyclable materials. They showed incredible creativity, teamwork, and environmental awareness while designing homes for the birds that visit our playground.\r\n\r\nThe addition of birds to our outdoor space has brought beautiful songs and colorful sights into our playground each day. Students enjoy observing the different kinds of birds visiting the feeders and are learning to identify them by their colors, sounds, and behaviors. These experiences have encouraged curiosity, observation skills, and a deeper appreciation for nature.\r\n\r\nWe also appreciate the shepherd's hook, which has become a beautiful addition to our green playground and nature garden.
