Personally, I do my best to educate and expose myself to people and cultures that I am not a part of; that's a responsibility of mine as a white teacher with diverse students. \r\nSomething that is not necessarily my responsibility, but I take pride in, is educating my white students about cultures that are not of the majority like their own. \r\nIn my personal life, when my husband and I decide to have children, they will be mixed race. I have never learned to take care of hair that does not look or behave like my own. This realization was an embarrassing one. It made me feel ignorant. I never want any of my students to feel ignorant like this when they can easily learn right now. \r\nTeaching ALL of my students about hair care of different people is a way I can make a difference for ALL of my students.
