As the boxes containing new graphic novels, picture books, and non-fiction research texts trickled in day-by-day, the pile grew and so did the anticipation of finding out what was in the boxes. We did a TikTok inspired \"Amazon Haul Unboxing\", per student request, and it has gone down as one of the best days ever! So, I want to begin by saying thank you for helping to give us that moment as a class. Times like that are the core memories that stick with kids as they look back and remember the fun they had in school. \r\n\r\nThe graphic novels have definitely been the star of the show, which is to be expected. Especially the \"I Survived\" series additions. The beauty of these texts is that even the most reluctant reader can access a text that is both fun, with exciting pictures and comic book styled texts, but they are also learning about some important historical events. Many students, after reading an \"I Survived\" book will then ask for help in finding a non-fiction book about the topic they recently read. Challenge accepted! \r\n\r\nAnother exciting change that I have noticed in the classroom since our giant book haul arrived was an increase in reading stamina for many of my scholars. We started the year trying to read continuously for seven minutes, then ten, then fifteen, and so on. Now, I have to deal with moans and groans when the alarm goes off to get ready for recess. Which is a problem I am more than happy to have. \r\n\r\n\"Can we have five more minutes?\" \"Wait! I'm almost done with this chapter\". Music to my teacher ears! Thank you again for helping to make my students so happy. I am so grateful for the support of so many in helping to create lifelong learners and lovers of reading!","fullyFundedDate":1760702672920,"projectUrl":"project/books-to-broaden-our-horizons/9721069/","projectTitle":"Books to Broaden Our Horizons","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ballmann","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1955527_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755541897267","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lisa-slotten"},{"teacherId":1955527,"projectId":9619708,"letterContent":"\"I wish I was in this classroom!\" It might not be the most impactful statement for a teacher to hear, but it feels pretty good regardless. The rug and lamps, when added to a collection of bright and colorful posters, anchor charts, and student work, truly make our classroom feel like home. Thank you for your help in creating that with your generous donation. \r\n\r\nAll of the materials were delivered right before the first day of school, so the room was perfect before my new students came in. The looks on their faces said it all, and when I heard, \"This room looks so cool, \" I knew the impromptu project was worth it. We spent the first few weeks of school learning, and practicing, routines like partner work, independent seat work & reading, as well as several schoolwide routines. It was clear from day one that the favorite spot in the classroom was curled up on the brand new black and white rug with a good book. I will do anything to get my students excited to read, and creating a welcoming environment seems to be working well. We also spend every morning together as a whole group during our Morning Meeting. This time gives us a chance to practice working on some of our social-emotional learning, share important parts of our lives, celebrate our successes, and have a little bit of fun with class games and activities. The rug is the perfect size for our classroom family and I never get complaints that we have to sit on the floor. Additionally, I love using lamps instead of all of the fluorescent light as it seems to create a more calming space. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and generosity. It is people like you that make this whole teaching thing a little bit easier. I am excited to continue this new challenge at a new school. We are already building a strong classroom community, which I hope, will lead to strong community members in the future.","fullyFundedDate":1755618495921,"projectUrl":"project/new-year-new-vibes/9619708/","projectTitle":"New Year, New Vibes","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ballmann","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1955527_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755541897267","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/lisa-slotten"},{"teacherId":10178212,"projectId":9598007,"letterContent":"My students were so excited to open the flexible seating boxes when they arrived in our classroom! They couldn't believe how generous all of the donors are to provide such great products for our class.\r\nI have a few students who need access to flexible seating in order to keep their bodies in a designated space on the carpet. They are able to choose a seating option each morning. The other students take turns throughout the week choosing seating options for carpet time and independent work/reading time. I have noticed students being more comfortable at school, less anxious about independent work time and work completion is at an all time high! \r\nThank you for your amazing support of public education and our third grade!
