We've practiced laundry routines by using the washer and dryer, followed by folding towels. One student even demonstrated independence by sorting the towels by color, showing both initiative and organizational growth.\r\n\r\nIn addition, students have been engaged in hands-on fine motor activities using tools designed for threading nuts onto bolts. While simple, these exercises directly support their finger strength and coordination. For one particular student, my hope is that developing these fine motor skills will also improve his ability to write in the future, creating a meaningful connection between classroom activities and academic growth.\r\n\r\nWe've also focused on daily living skills by practicing dishwashing. Before preparing food, students took responsibility for cleaning the dishes, reinforcing both hygiene habits and responsibility. Last week, students had the opportunity to put those skills into action by preparing grilled cheese sandwiches. They spread butter on their bread, unwrapped the cheese slices, assembled their sandwiches, and with support they cooked them in the pan. This activity allowed students to practice following directions, sequencing steps, and safely using kitchen tools, while also experiencing a sense of accomplishment as they enjoyed the meal they created.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are planning to take the city bus to the grocery store, where students will be able to purchase ingredients to use in our classroom kitchen. This will give them the opportunity to practice community navigation, money skills, and meal preparation further extending the real-world impact of this project.\r\n\r\nEven in these early stages, the resources have provided my students with opportunities to practice independence, responsibility, and real-world skills in ways that are meaningful to them. I am excited to continue building on these experiences and am deeply grateful for the support that makes this learning possible.","fullyFundedDate":1755105133511,"projectUrl":"project/cooking-up-confidence-and-independence/9557986/","projectTitle":"Cooking Up Confidence and Independence","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10042812_orig.png?crop=518,519,x0,y58&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755111130246","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10042812"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37496","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1458,"numTeachers":85,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":53,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":69.4,"schoolId":37496,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Tremper High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Tremper High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/kenosha-unified-school-district-1/tremper-high-school/37496"}
