They are able to quickly navigate digital tools, research information, and collaborate in ways that enhance engagement and deepen understanding. In my classroom, technology supports learning by providing access to interactive resources, creative platforms, and real-world connections that make lessons more meaningful and relevant. As a result, my students are not only building academic skills but also developing digital literacy and problem-solving abilities that will benefit them beyond school and in life.\r\n\r\nTechnology has also allowed my students to engage in meaningful, service-based learning experiences. For example, students used online platforms to locate drawing templates and creative ideas designed to support veterans coping with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Through this process, students became more open about their own feelings and began using technology as a positive outlet to express themselves and manage stress. They created and shared digital artwork, messages, and letters of encouragement, which were then sent to veterans, fostering empathy, connection, and a sense of purpose while also supporting their own social-emotional growth.","fullyFundedDate":1767107123836,"projectUrl":"project/hearts-of-honor-a-compassion-project-fo/9857277/","projectTitle":"Hearts of Honor: A Compassion Project for Disabled Veterans","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Payne","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9932855"},{"teacherId":9932855,"projectId":9700559,"letterContent":"While studying ocean pollution in ecology, including the impact on marine ecosystems, microplastics, marine toxicology, and synergistic effects of combined pollutants, my students and I began discussing practical ways we could make a difference locally. As we explored how plastics and other waste materials enter waterways and disrupt food chains, harm marine life, and accumulate toxins, students recognized the importance of responsible recycling and proper waste disposal. This led us to designate and actively use clearly labeled recycling bins throughout the classroom, helping students connect real-world environmental issues to daily habits and reinforcing the role individuals play in conservation efforts and informed policy-making to protect marine environments.\r\n\r\nTo extend our impact beyond the classroom, I collaborated with fellow teachers, Behr Recycling, and OfficeMax to safely dispose of aluminum cans, printer cartridges, scrap aluminum, discarded headphones, and extension cords. Through these partnerships, recyclable materials were properly processed rather than sent to landfills, and proceeds from certain recycled items were used to purchase snacks and supplies for the classroom. This initiative not only reinforced environmental responsibility but also demonstrated how sustainability efforts can directly benefit our school community.","fullyFundedDate":1765509740610,"projectUrl":"project/eco-wise-a-student-project-on-protecti/9700559/","projectTitle":"“Eco-Wise: A Student Project on Protecting the Earth”","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Payne","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9932855"},{"teacherId":7438618,"projectId":8844638,"letterContent":"I know that I am WAY behind on this thank you letter, but that is just how life is going right now! We have an extremely busy classroom full of amazing students, but time can be hard to find. The time that we have together is spent together. \r\n\r\nSo, let's get down to business. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. Our students this year absolutely love books and these new ones are no exception. We love to read as a group, in small groups, and the students by themselves. Our bookshelf is constantly being rearranged because the books are so well-loved. \r\n\r\nEach week, we focus on a specific core word that correlates with commonly used words in our everyday language. The majority of our students use AAC devices (such as an iPad with a picture-based vocabulary). We read books focusing on these core words, listen to songs with these core words, write our own sentences with the core word, and play a variety of games with the core word. \r\n\r\nWith all of that being said, THANK YOU AGAIN for building up our classroom library!","fullyFundedDate":1727937904796,"projectUrl":"project/build-our-library/8844638/","projectTitle":"Build our Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Briggs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7438618_orig.jpg?crop=272,272,x0,y1&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1620062225380","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7438618"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_67138","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2001,"numTeachers":123,"percentFrplEligible":73,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":48,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":31,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":67.8,"schoolId":67138,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Indian Trail High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Indian Trail High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/kenosha-unified-school-district-1/indian-trail-academy/67138"}
