Students were surprised at the new classroom layout and whiteboards around the room. There were curious about how they would be used. \r\n\r\nAt first students were a little hesitant about using the whiteboards. Some did want to be standing and complained about the new lesson structure. After teaching and modeling how group work should look and sound while working at their vertical surfaces, they began to adjust. Now students are excited to work at the whiteboards in their groups. They are visibly disappointed if we have a lesson that is better suited to working at the tables instead.\r\n\r\nI have seen a great increase in mathematical discourse and problem solving in groups at their whiteboards. Students have said they are more willing to try different strategies because it's so easy to erase at the whiteboards when a strategy doesn't work. It also turned out that they like being out of their seats for a majority of the class.
