The books we were able to purchase served our students very well this past school year and will serve many others for years to come. One of the most valuable attributes of these book selections were that they were very relatable to students as they spoke to the immigrant experience and how their new lives mesh with their old lives. It showed them that it is possible to keep many aspects of their cultures relevant while adding new experiences to their repertoires. Each student that used the books purchased earned credit toward graduation in reading explorations as well as in the acquisition of the English language. Several students improved there speaking and writing skills as well. I look forward to sharing these materials with many more students over the next several years.
