In May, families were invited to attend a celebration night where all activities were chicken/mystery themed to match the story. We had so much fun making crafts and a snack, joining our superintendent for a read aloud of \"Interrupting Chicken,\" playing a toss the chicken game, and gathering clues at each activity that were needed to unlock the Breakout EDU box at the end of our time together. \r\n\r\nWe selected a title that could be followed, understood, and enjoyed by younger \r\nstudents, but that still captivated and engaged older children. These materials will be helpful in giving students the opportunity to be more creative in how they share their ideas and solutions to the learning problems that we work through in class. I love to use giant personal white boards for each student so that they have lots of room to draw and present their ideas. The dry erase markers and erasers will help us share ideas in color! Life is colorful learning should be too!\r\n\r\nAlso, the cardstock and markers will help us in creating interesting projects to show our learning. The students enjoy creating \"mini-zines\" which are tiny books that help students synthesize their learning ideas into a tiny missive. They can share these books with others for additional learning. We can also use the paper and markers to create tools such as spinners, markers, and dice as students develop their own games to show their learning. Using the paper they can also build with the 3D shapes they create for math learning. The projects ideas are endless and I know we are going to have fun creating with these supplies.","fullyFundedDate":1755736348154,"projectUrl":"project/making-our-mark-on-the-new-school-year/9511772/","projectTitle":"Making our Mark on the New School Year","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rank","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6030783_orig.jpg?crop=221,221,x3,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1744299843634","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6030783"},{"teacherId":6030783,"projectId":9251911,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting the donation of the games, Multi, Azul, and Last Letter to our district. In lieu of letters, our EL student leaders decided to create a beautiful, heartfelt \"Thank You Video\" for you. Each of them selected a donated book, read it, then summarized it and explained how they feel each book is like an \"inspirational mirror\" to them. Attached are the printed color slides of their video presentation, and on each page is a dynamic QR code with a link to the video, which was originally created via a wonderful platform called Canva, then converted to YouTube for easier sharing. \r\n\r\nThis amazing group of EL students is part of a club (which was my brainchild this school year) called \"Culture Corner\". Every week Culture Corner has the honor of creating videos-played for the entire school on Fridays- where they teach a new word in their home language, and then share information about their cultures. I then designed a logo for us, which soon became a t-shirt! So far, they have recorded 26 videos, and are still going strong, eager to share their pride and love for their cultures with the rest of the school!\r\n\r\nThe books that we received from Donors Choose have truly been \"inspirational mirrors for my EL students. As they read these books about Hmong, Mexican, Nepali, Vietnamese, and Cuban children, they see themselves reflected in their stories. My Nepali student was fascinated to learn about a well known soccer player from Nepal, while my Mexican student could totally relate to feeling ashamed of speaking Spanish at first, my Vietnamese student related to the girl in her story visiting Vietnam for the first time, and my Hmong students enjoyed reading about familiar foods and family events they attend in the Hmong community. We could not be more grateful and appreciative of your generosity. \r\n\r\nAttached below is a link to our personalized \"Thank You\" video, as well as a link to our Culture Corner page (Smore) which houses all of our CC videos and more!\r\n\r\nCulture Corner #26: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dy8DQK-WV64\r\nCulture Corner web page: https://secure.smore.com/n/120fr\r\n\r\nThank You, Gracias, धन्यवाद, Cảm ơn, ua tsaug, Спасибо!!!\r\n\r\n~Gloria Jacques & Forest Glen's EL Culture Corner 😊🌎🇳🇵🇵🇦🇹🇭🇱🇦🇻🇳🇲🇽🇨🇺","fullyFundedDate":1733270917200,"projectUrl":"project/books-can-be-inspirational-mirrors/8863963/","projectTitle":"Books Can Be Inspirational Mirrors!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jacques","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9796869_orig.jpg?crop=1108,1108,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728940650884","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9796869"},{"teacherId":9835477,"projectId":8962543,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for contributing to my project \"Opening Our Ears to All Languages: Translation Earbuds.\" Translation earbuds are a specialized technology that allow two individuals of different language backgrounds to simultaneously communicate with one another. \r\n\r\nSince receiving these earbuds, they have been used in multiple settings. New-to-the-district families have used the earbuds with school staff during the registration process and for school tours. Families can simultaneously converse with school staff using the TimeKettle translation earbuds which are much more accurate and faster to use than the Google Translate app. Students have used the earbuds both in class and with each other. These earbuds make it possible for students to continue learning academic content in their home language. That content knowledge can then be transferred over to learning the concepts and words in English. Additionally, when students have down time in class, they can use the translation earbuds with each other to get to know one another better and to be able to have a face-to-face conversation instead of typing everything on their phones to have a translated conversation. \r\n\r\nThank you for your help in removing some of the language barriers for our students and their families!","fullyFundedDate":1737748755471,"projectUrl":"project/opening-our-ears-to-all-languages-trans/8962543/","projectTitle":"Opening Our Ears To All Languages: Translation Earbuds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Holman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9835477_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y104&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731517134095","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9835477"},{"teacherId":9835477,"projectId":8941868,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for contributing to my project \"Opening Our Ears to All Languages: Translation Earbuds.\" Translation earbuds are a specialized technology that allow two individuals of different language backgrounds to simultaneously communicate with one another. \r\n\r\nSince receiving these earbuds, they have been used in secondary classrooms.
