Seeing the high-powered titanium chiller set up and humming away instantly transformed our classroom into a true \"living lab.\" Knowing that the chiller is working hard to keep the water at the icy-cold temperatures an axolotl needs has made the upcoming arrival feel real and imminent. The natural driftwood and other new resources have completely elevated our room, creating a thriving, balanced environment that the kids take immense pride in looking after every single day.\r\nIn the meantime, my students have fully stepped into their roles as \"Ecosystem Engineers\" to ensure the tank is perfect for when our axolotl officially moves in. They have been diligently checking the water chemistry, using test strips to monitor pH levels, and tracking the nitrogen cycle to make sure the water parameters are completely safe and stable. A standout moment has been watching them take complete ownership of this routine—calibrating nutrients in our hydroponic tower, setting timers for natural light cycles, and making sure our current fish and plant ecosystems are seamlessly interconnected. They aren't just reading about aquatic ecosystems in a textbook; they are actively managing one!\r\nOur next steps are all about preparing for the grand arrival! Now that the kids have mastered water testing and the chiller is maintaining ideal conditions, they are preparing a full habitat readiness report to officially clear the tank for the axolotl. Once our new guest settles in, the students will observe how its presence completes our closed-loop system, tracking how energy and matter flow from feeding the axolotl to harvesting fresh produce from our hydroponic tower. The composting supplies that were included in this kit will reach kids in my science room for years to come. We are still in the process of building a proper environment for our worms and learning how to care for them. It's fun to see the kids get their hands dirty and get 'grossed out' by what compost is. Kids are excited to see the worms and often want to hold one; they also love taking turns feeding them. \r\n This is just the beginning of what you have provided. The composting tumbler is part of a long-term goal for our school. We have a garden space that needs updating and proper care. The tumbler will be a new addition to this space and will help students connect recycling to the real world, a true lesson in sustainability.
