Now that I have a couch, students and staff who come in to spend time with my therapy dog, Penny, have a place to sit and snuggle with her. Prior to the couch, office visitors would either have to sit in a chair, which made if difficult for them to pet Penny, or sit on the floor while petting her. Now, whenever someone sits on the couch Penny knows that that is her cue to jump up and sit next to them. As you can see from my pictures, she really enjoys her time spent with students and staff in her roll as a therapy dog. Students, staff, and Penny all love the new couch! The project was completed as a final activity in all of our agricultural classes. This includes vet science, horticulture, and natural resources. In total, 300 students participated in the activity. Students created poster projects about specific topics related to the class. Some of the vet science students illustrated parts of the animal heart. Others described the importance of disease prevention. Our horticulture students identified poisonous plants and their impact on our environment. \r\n\r\nAll of our students are in Brown County. In August, students compete in the Brown County Fair. The students who created their posters may enter the fair and display their work for the community. It is a joy to see the faces of the students light up when they see Penny walk into school in the morning. She has been able to work with students in the classroom setting as well as in a one on one setting for social emotional support with the social worker. Penny provides a calming presence for students in distress, and brightens their days. Even the staff are excited to see Penny and often greet her by name. Students and staff regularly look forward to \"Penny days\" and are specifically asking for the opportunity to \"snuggle the therapy dog.\" Penny has brought a new level of support to my job, and joy to our student services department.
