The new pencil sharpener was an instant hit — on the very first day, students lined up just to try it, delighted that the pencil \"pops out\" when it is done. It's now part of our classroom jobs system: our Pencil Monitor is in charge of emptying the shavings container and letting me know when it needs to be recharged, which has given students a sense of ownership and responsibility.\r\n\r\nThe reading corner has become one of my students' favorite spots in the room. They sitting p on the soft rug with a cushion to get comfortable while they read, and it has made independent reading time something they look forward to. The daily schedule chart, placed right next to our classroom screen, has also become part of our morning routine — students check it first thing to see what's on for the day, and some even volunteer to update it if I forget. The headphone organizer has been just as practical: with numbers assigned inside each pocket, headphones stay put, untangled, and accounted for.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will keep building on these routines as we move into our literacy rotations, where students will be using the reading corner daily for independent and partner reading. We already have a wonderful collection of Spanish books, so adding more English titles — and refreshing our classroom library with new, sturdy bins (some of our current baskets are broken or bent) — could be a great next project to keep transforming our space and drawing students even further into reading.
