We have been using the new games and hands-on resources during small group rotations, math centers, and even as part of whole-class review before quizzes. One memorable moment was during a probability lesson when students used the new game kits to create their own spinners and analyze outcomes using tree diagrams. Instead of simply solving problems on paper, they were laughing, strategizing, and naturally discussing mathematical vocabulary like \"outcomes,\" \"sample space,\" and \"theoretical probability.\" It was incredible to see students who are usually hesitant about math fully engaged and confidently explaining their thinking to their peers.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students' eyes lit up as they saw colorful game boards, dice sets, and activity cards laid out around the room. Several students asked, \"Are we really using these for math?\" That moment alone showed how powerful learning through play can be. What stood out most was how quickly they shifted from seeing the materials as \"just games\" to recognizing them as tools for problem-solving and critical thinking. Even students who sometimes struggle with focus were eager to participate and stay on task.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will be designing their own math games aligned to our current unit, applying concepts from linear equations and rational numbers in creative ways. They'll test their games with classmates, gather feedback, and refine the rules to ensure mathematical accuracy. This next step empowers them not only to practice skills but to think like creators and teachers. Your support has transformed our classroom into a space where math feels approachable, collaborative, and joyful. Thank you for helping us show our students that learning math can truly be a game worth playing!","fullyFundedDate":1762265223514,"projectUrl":"project/game-on-bringing-math-to-life-through-p/9691599/","projectTitle":"Game On! Each student group constructed a diorama representing a specific biome, such as the rainforest, tundra, temperate forest, savannah, boreal forest, or desert. When the students saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement; they couldn't wait to start building their biomes. \r\n\r\nWith the resources provided, I was able to incorporate this project-based learning into my biology curriculum, which encouraged creativity and collaboration among my students. This hands-on project significantly enhanced their understanding of biological communities, allowing them to visualize and better grasp the relationships between organisms and their environments. The students also practiced crucial communication skills by presenting their dioramas to the class and engaging in discussions that deepened their learning.\r\n\r\nThe supplies will also benefit future classes by allowing them to use remaining materials as well as observing the current boxes as examples of expected student work.","fullyFundedDate":1735488898549,"projectUrl":"project/biome-in-a-box-dioramas/8888213/","projectTitle":"Biome in A Box Dioramas","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. McManus","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9807679"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38089","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":226,"numTeachers":17,"percentFrplEligible":54,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":88,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"13.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":47.8,"schoolId":38089,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Frederic Area Junior Senior High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Frederic Area Junior Senior High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/frederic-school-district/frederic-area-junior-senior-high-school/38089"}
