I built it over winter break and it was a surprise when they returned! The kids were so excited when they walked in to see it! Every child in our classroom has been thrilled to use the grocery store. Communication skills have skyrocketed when they play with the items. Students that once just repeated the names of fruits and vegetables, are able to identify the fruits and vegetables independently. I have watched a student that only spoke by repeating what was said to her, start saying independent phrases just as \"Welcome!\" and \"Thank you!\" and \"Do you want to play?\" We plan to make grocery lists for the students to use to find the items in the store. In spring, we hope to plan a walking field trip to our local grocery store to purchase items for our own cooking in the classroom, we are learning meaningful life skills. Thank you so much for funding this project for our classroom!
