Our students have been especially excited to explore the new sensory bins while practicing important early literacy and math skills. One favorite activity has been using sand to find and practice letters and numbers. Students can trace letters, identify them, and practice counting while using their senses and developing fine-motor skills. \r\n\r\nThe students were so excited when they first saw the new materials! They immediately wanted to touch, explore, and figure out how everything worked. The sensory bins were especially popular, and students were eager to dig through the sand. Their excitement made it clear how valuable hands-on materials are for keeping young learners engaged and excited about learning.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these materials to build early literacy, math, fine-motor, and problem-solving skills. Students will continue practicing letter and number recognition through sensory activities and sand games. We will also use the Pluffle materials for open-ended building challenges where students can create their own designs and practice working together. The putty has been great for the students needing that sensory input for their hands as well as emotional regulation. \r\nThe building magnetic blocks have been the biggest success with them. I have one student who even uses them in one hand while writing his work with the other. They have been a wonderful tool to help students focus as well as to help them work together to create different structures and patterns. \r\nThe snacks have been great as well. Many of the students will stop in and request a snack because they need a comfort snack or something to fill their belly up before lunch. We will connect the center to real-world experiences, build vocabulary, and strengthen social skills like cooperation and sharing.
