They practiced taking turns, communicating with one another, and solving small problems as they played.\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were extremely excited. They were eager to explore and immediately began discussing how they would use the items. Their excitement and creativity were clear as they jumped right into play and stayed engaged for long periods of time.\r\nNext, students will continue using the dramatic play center to support our classroom lessons by changing themes and roles. We use it during check-ins, after peer conflicts, and even before students head back to class if they're feeling overwhelmed. Something as simple as a bottle of water or a small snack has helped students regulate themselves enough to re-engage rather than shut down.\r\n\r\nThe fidgets have been especially impactful. I've watched students who normally struggle to sit through conversations use a fidget while we talk, allowing them to stay present and open. The rug has turned into a soft landing space, a place where students can pause, breathe, and gather themselves before returning to learning.\r\n\r\nWhen I first showed them the cart and explained it was just for them, the reaction was immediate: \"This is for us?\" That moment reminded me why I do this work. They felt seen. They felt cared for and that matters.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we'll continue building these tools into our daily SEL work, teaching students how to recognize when they need a break, how to advocate for themselves, and how to use healthy coping strategies. My goal isn't just to help them get through middle school, but to help them build skills they can carry with them long after they leave my office.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me create a space where students can reset, refocus, and remember that they are supported.","fullyFundedDate":1764814405656,"projectUrl":"project/fuel-for-focus-snacks-and-sel-supports/9657377/","projectTitle":"Fuel for Focus: Snacks and SEL Supports for Middle Schoolers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kim","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9888219_orig.jpg?crop=1242,1242,x0,y463&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756327683718","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/msk-lcoschool"},{"teacherId":3590100,"projectId":9850025,"letterContent":"My students are excited to have new opportunities to work together and be creative. She was very upset, so I sat down with her and explained how the perfect attendance works and what each student must do to be on the list. This student has only missed half of one day in the past six weeks! I was so impressed that I called her to my office to congratulate her and ask her what made the difference. She said she wants to be on the list to receive a treat every week!
