When my students first saw some of these items (especially the lights, sensory sock, and Harkla hug canoe), they were immediately so excited! Four students tried sitting in the canoe together which was so exciting for them and a great opportunity for them to work on taking turns. This has been such a positive and beneficial addition to our class, giving each student the opportunity to safely explore sensory tools that may be helpful with regulating their individual sensory system to facilitate improved sustained attention and transitions throughout their day at school. \r\n\r\nFinding sensory tools that can be used within the classroom is often challenging as many of them are deemed as \"distractions\" for other students. The sensory bubble tube and theraputty have been 2 perfect additions to a student's sensory \"tool bag\" that he is able to use in the classroom so that he is able to be provided with ongoing proprioceptive and visual sensory input well being able to independently maintain adequate attention to follow instructions and remain in the classroom. Giving students the ability to have sensory opportunities throughout their day has been significant in facilitating greater independence and success in the classroom as well as outside of the school environment. Teaching students about their own sensory needs and how to meet those safely and appropriately is a skill that they can use in all domains of their life today, tomorrow, and for the rest of their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1767020419444,"projectUrl":"project/regulation-station/9828110/","projectTitle":"Regulation Station","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bishop","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7747028"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_39155","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":323,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":95,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":43.5,"schoolId":39155,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Summersville Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Summersville Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/west-virginia/nicholas-county-school-district/summersville-elementary-school/39155"}
