Recently, my students used the paints and canvases to create visual representations of their favorite holiday characters, combining literacy and art in one project. They carefully planned their designs, mixed colors, and proudly presented their finished pieces to the class. These projects have encouraged creative expression and strengthened comprehension of what they've been reading. In addition to this, they used scratch art to depict Severe Weather events after reading, watching videos, and exploring different types that affect places around the world. \r\n\r\nTheir excitement was immediate! Many students couldn't believe how many new supplies we had to work with. They were especially thrilled about the scratch art and sticker art—materials they don't often get to use in the classroom. There was a real buzz of curiosity as they explored everything and began brainstorming what they could create.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to connect art with our Language Arts unit. Students will be designing posters that represent important skills and literary figures we've been studying. They'll use the paint, markers, and decorative materials to create colorful, informative displays that bring our lessons to life. These projects help them take ownership of their learning and express their understanding in creative, meaningful ways.
