Because of your generosity, many of my students who did not have books available to them now do! \r\n\r\nI now use the portable library outside of my classroom. On Wednesdays, I have students come in during lunch, look through the books, and sign one out if they would like to. Since starting the project, every single book has been checked out at least once. Many books are constantly gone from the shelves and into kids' hands! \r\n\r\nThe next steps for my classroom are making lessons based on students' choice of novels. The portable classroom library has sparked a joy of reading in many of my kids. I want to cash in on the enthusiasm. I am having students create short \"sales pitches\" where they try to sell their classmates on their favorite books. The goal is to expand even more next year and have a Nitro High Book Club. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you for your contribution. While we have not yet begun using our new class sets of The Book Thief and Hidden Figures, we will be diving into both novels during the 4th 9 weeks. These texts will give every student consistent access to rich, complex literature that challenges their thinking and broadens their perspectives. In my classroom, novels are not read solely for enjoyment; they are powerful tools for teaching critical literacy skills. Students will practice close reading and annotation, analyze theme and character development, evaluate an author's craft and use of literary devices, and connect historical contexts to contemporary issues. Both novels will also provide meaningful opportunities for discussion about resilience, courage, equity, and the impact individuals can have on the world around them.\r\n Even before starting the novels, the additional materials we received have already made a noticeable difference. The magnetic poster paper has allowed me to create interactive anchor charts that we can move, revise, and build upon throughout a unit. This flexibility helps students visually track key concepts, vocabulary, and analytical strategies. Supplies such as pencils and paper ensure that students can fully engage in daily learning activities, even if they forget or are unable to bring materials from home. Having these essentials readily available removes barriers to participation and helps maintain a classroom environment where all students feel prepared and supported.\r\n Because of your support, we are entering the 4th 9 weeks equipped with the tools and texts necessary to foster thoughtful discussion, deeper analysis, and meaningful academic growth.
