Our whole school from Kindergarten to Fifth grade all read the same book. There was time set a side for the teacher or a student, depending on grade level, and read the book: The Lion of Mars. During the duration of the book students went on an adventure as the kids who lived on Mars had to make important decisions, solve problems and save their American Settlement. As we read the story the students were engaged in many activities learning about the universe, the planets, the stars, other countries on earth and the Earth layers. We made night lights with glow sticks, designed our own planet, wrote a digital book our iPads about the planets. We made stress bottles with water, food coloring and glitter to make it look like the universe when you shake it up. Each student designed a space helmet with glow in the dark stars and wrote about what they would take if they went into space. We made the Earth out of clay, starting from the inside to the outside and when we cut our Earth in half you could see the layers. It was magical. Red for the core, Orange for the outer core, Yellow for the mantle, Brown for the Crust and then Blue for the Water sprinkled with specks of Green for the Land. Thank you for all your support. With your help our students learned that there are actual planets that rain diamonds. This class has really been one in a million. Thank you for all the extra things that you donated, like my very first blue tooth speaker. There is a new app that allows for background sounds to books as you read those books aloud, we call it magically reading. You also provided new books that I'm using for read aloud.\r\nSecondly, all the storage items that were donated has helped out so much with organization and storage of all materials. Every morning students pick books to read. This is so much easier because of the storage tubs provided. These tubs are divided into three different sections. This allows for easier viewing and selecting.\r\nWhen preparing for this year, it was in the back of my mind this could be my last year. I wanted to have some things that were my heart's desires. When my students this year write in their journal they have the journals with the writing lines on the bottom of the page and the drawing section on top. I have always wanted to be able to have this type of journal. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.","fullyFundedDate":1715804304469,"projectUrl":"project/ready-for-first-grade/8406552/","projectTitle":"Ready for First Grade!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Miley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6465539_orig.jpg?crop=579,579,x380,y342&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753116905144","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6465539"},{"teacherId":6465539,"projectId":8277802,"letterContent":"I know this thank you is later than expected but we are just now starting to use those donations that you sent last spring. \r\nThis year our school is doing another One Book One School project and we will be reading the book, The Lion of Mars. That is why when asking for donations I asked for many space items. After counting all those items we came up with over 1000 items for the students at my school. \r\n\r\nSometimes it is difficult to get needed materials but for those extra exciting materials it can be impossible. It has been such a blessing to the kids at our little country school to have people support our adventures. For those who gave when we did our dinosaur project, or Appalachian project, the kids still talk about those activities.\r\n\r\nI can't wait to see what things the kids will learn and what they will buy with their Mars Money.
