It is very much appreciated.\r\nIt is always challenging to get students enthusiastic about reading. When I told my students that we would be reading this book next, they were very excited. This will be the first thing that we begin after winter break, so I am very pleased that there is something that makes them look forward to coming back to school.\r\nI really love the way that this book balances technology and explores not only the role of technology in nature, but also the strength of community and the power of friendship. I can't wait to explore these things with my class and see them come to understand these things more. \r\nThank you again for your generous donation. I do keep snacks for students that were unable to eat breakfast or need a snack prior to after school sports practice.\r\n\r\nI will continue to stock this cart as needed. My students have appreciated the new books so much. \r\n\r\nSince Covid, it seems like digital learning has become so much more prevalent. Online textbooks and texts have become the norm, but with so much of their personal lives driven by the online world, students seem to enjoy laying that aside sometimes at school and having a brand new physical book in their hands. It is nice to see them lay aside devices and slow down to enjoy a book.\r\n\r\nThe Holocaust has always fascinated students, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas handles the subject in a way that is very accessible for them. Students have been able to explore the impact of the Holocaust through reading the novel, visiting the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, and completing personal research projects. Students have explored themes of the loss of innocence and realization that those you look up to might not be as worthy of your admiration as you thought. They have questioned why some people feel the need to be superior to others and how we are all universally the same and deserving of humane treatment no matter what.\r\n\r\nI am confident that this book study has made students more likely to want to do their part to make sure that atrocities like the Holocaust do not happen again.
