The process of building a theremin from a kit is something they never get the opportunity to do. We worked in groups of three, following written directions to build the instrument. My students took turns reading, building and checking the connections. We had 100% student engagement with this project and students were so excited when they made each section work. \r\n\r\nWhen our instruments were completed the students used their theremin and other percussion and string instruments to compose music that features the theremin. Composing is always a part of learning music but, building the theremin was new and unique for our students. \r\n\r\n Students learned more than just composing. They learned how to work together and follow directions exactly. Most groups made mistakes, and they learned how to trouble shoot and check their work. Building electronics really interested some students and they were quick to jump in and help others. So we learned about ourselves and interests while we did our build.","fullyFundedDate":1733282792043,"projectUrl":"project/maker-maker-electronic-music-maker/8959752/","projectTitle":"Maker-Maker Electronic Music Maker!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wayne","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp205366_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1474424753890","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tracy-wayne"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38804","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":302,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":97,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":61.1,"schoolId":38804,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Clay Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Clay Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/west-virginia/clay-county-school-district/clay-middle-school/38804"}
