While many of our generous donors use technology at home, they may not realize how tools like Microsoft Word, Canva, and OneNote are helping my students thrive academically and personally.\r\n\r\nMicrosoft Word is an essential tool for my students, especially as they begin to develop their writing and editing skills. Its features—such as spell check, grammar suggestions, and templates—make the writing process more engaging and less intimidating. For example, during a recent persuasive writing project, students used Word to draft and format their essays, adding headers, bullet points, and even images. Seeing their work transform into polished, professional-looking documents gave them a tremendous sense of accomplishment.\r\n\r\nCanva is another tool that excites my students and helps them tap into their creative potential. With its drag-and-drop interface, they can create visually stunning projects, from posters to presentations. Recently, during a history unit, students designed digital posters about famous historical figures using Canva's templates and graphic elements. They loved exploring fonts, colors, and images to make their projects unique. It was amazing to see how proud they were to share their work with the class.\r\n\r\nOneNote has been a game-changer for organization and collaboration. Each student has their own digital notebook where they can take notes, draw diagrams, and even record their ideas. During math lessons, students use OneNote to break down problems, annotate their steps, and share their work with me in real-time. OneNote has also helped students who struggle with organization. For instance, one student who often misplaced papers now keeps everything neatly stored in their digital notebook, which has boosted their confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nThese tools have had a transformative impact on my classroom. One student who used to struggle with writing now enthusiastically drafts stories in Word, while another who found it hard to express ideas visually discovered a new passion for design through Canva. The excitement my students show when using these tools is contagious, and it's inspiring to see how technology empowers them to take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nThanks to these resources, my students are not just learning—they're developing essential skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom. I'm incredibly grateful to our donors for making this possible and helping us create a classroom where creativity, engagement, and growth thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1724690409225,"projectUrl":"project/stylus-magic-power-up-learning-with-app/8534741/","projectTitle":"Stylus Magic: Power Up Learning with Apple Pens!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Nelson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7153724_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689081300618","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7153724"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_38793","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":230,"numTeachers":15,"percentFrplEligible":86,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":95,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":38793,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Nichols Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Nichols Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/west-virginia/cabell-county-school-district/nichols-elementary-school/38793"}
