They align beautifully with our phonics lessons, making them a perfect fit for our curriculum. For example, when we focus on short vowel sounds, we have seven different sets of decodable books that keep students actively engaged in reading. Since each title comes with five copies, every student in a small group can read the same book, allowing me to listen to each child individually and provide targeted support.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite classroom moments was watching students dive into these books for the first time. Their faces lit up with excitement, especially when they realized the stories were both silly and fun to read. The joy and confidence they felt while reading was truly heartwarming. These books have made reading time something they look forward to every day.\r\n\r\nI'm especially grateful for the variety of fiction and nonfiction decodables that follow and reinforce the phonics patterns we're learning. It's empowering for students to read books that match their skill level and interests.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building our decodable library. I've written a grant in hopes of acquiring more titles so students can keep exploring new stories during center time. Listening to them read with pride and enthusiasm has become my favorite part of the day and it's all thanks to the generosity of donors who helped bring these resources into our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1756614970786,"projectUrl":"project/learn-to-read/9661343/","projectTitle":"Learn to Read!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Nandi","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10170234"},{"teacherId":7905953,"projectId":8716792,"letterContent":"Adding numerous Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) materials to the library has provided our students with invaluable resources that foster emotional intelligence and positive classroom environments. By funding materials like the \"Little Spot of Emotion Series,\" teachers can introduce young learners to a vocabulary of emotions, helping them identify, understand, and manage their feelings. This early exposure to emotional literacy lays the groundwork for improved self-awareness, empathy, and healthier relationships, ultimately contributing to a more supportive and inclusive learning community.\r\n\r\nYou as donors have also facilitated the acquisition of resources that address common classroom challenges in creative and engaging ways. Materials such as the \"On Strike\" series, give students a look at the lives of pencils and erasers, and provide a lighthearted approach to teaching responsibility, problem-solving, and conflict resolution. Through these stories, teachers can create memorable learning experiences that empower students to take ownership of their actions and contribute positively to the classroom environment. These resources, made possible by generous donors, not only enhance SEL skills but also foster a sense of fun and engagement in learning, creating a more positive and productive educational experience for all.","fullyFundedDate":1727927427183,"projectUrl":"project/social-emotional-learning-sel-books-fo/8716792/","projectTitle":"Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Books for Our Library","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Torres","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7905953_orig.jpg?crop=469,469,x173,y388&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1629224858198","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/bkslibrary"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_36029","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":372,"numTeachers":26,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":58,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":13,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"14.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.4,"schoolId":36029,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Brookside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Brookside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/shoreline-public-schools/brookside-elementary-school/36029"}
