These are extremely engaging for students and teach many things beyond the text. There are great text features such as maps, pictures, graphs, charts, and statistics. These always help engage the readers. \r\nAs our world is ever changing and there are lots of global issues happening these magazines help inform and open the minds of our students outside of our community. Students are learning about real topics in real time. Students are reading and discussing many topics they wouldn't if not for the Jr. Scholastics that were donated to me. I am grateful for this. \r\nIn addition to the highly engaging magazines that focus us on current events it is having a major impact on one of our school's student growth goals. As a school we focus on improving our students ability to comprehend informational text. I use these magazines during an intervention time to help students that struggle with informational text. These have been a game changer. When students are engaged in what they read, they understand it better and there is more buy in. I could not be teaching informational text the way I do had it not been for the generous donations I received.","fullyFundedDate":1765864365928,"projectUrl":"project/what-in-the-world/9647873/","projectTitle":"What in the World!??","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Nelson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10221967"},{"teacherId":10213647,"projectId":9638310,"letterContent":"In our classroom, we are using Scholastic Materials to work on several reading skills that are essential for our students to learn. One is the ability to decipher informational texts to answer questions, connect to bigger ideas, and write summaries. The ability to read charts and graphs, along with other data images, is reinforced using the current event magazines. In History class, we love making connections between current events and historical happenings we have studied.\r\n\r\nThe reason these materials are so engaging is that they are written for students at the appropriate lexile level, are high-interest articles, visually appealing, and timely. Students love getting new magazines for the month.\r\n\r\nYour donation made a big impact on our students' reading skills and will continue to help improve these skills are year.
