With this new group of kids, I was beginning to realize that some of them NEED these to enhance the skills they already had at school. \r\nThose kids that need these were extremely interested and even grateful when they saw them for the first time. It has made so many things possible for us in terms of play and creation. When we got them, my students were so incredibly excited. We have been using them at every single opportunity!\r\n\r\nIn SEL, we did a whole body listening activity where students are on opposite sides of a folder. Each student had about 10 legos. Student A would build something and then give directions to Student B to build it. Student B has to activate whole body listening in order to complete the task successfully. Then, students switch and do the same routine. It was so fun to see them laugh and enjoy the activity!\r\n\r\nAnother thing that I love about having legos is the opportunity for daily builds. We have earned free time each day, and students play with the legos every single day. I love watching them be creative and copy builds from the book to guide them. They began to ask and inquire what was the matter. \r\nNext, they all opened their gifts in suspense. They exclaimed when they saw what was inside each gift addressed to them: 3 books that were all theirs to keep forever. I heard so many thank yous!!! Within the next 20 minutes we spent at the end of school. Then, we read with each other until it was time to leave. I told them to bring the books with them next week to introduce Buddy reading and small group reading. Students will be taught what it means to read aloud to another student one on one or multiple at a time, so that thought will be planted before going to Winter break. We will revisit and reinforce the idea when we return from break. Along with this, students now have something to read over Winter break. I will be assigning them a \"book report\" to do over the Winter break and now everyone has the perfect book to read 😀 thank you so much from myself and my students.","fullyFundedDate":1730116063808,"projectUrl":"project/the-greatest-gift-of-all-reading/8813580/","projectTitle":"The Greatest Gift of All: Reading","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mickael","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8928539_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741911686327","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8928539"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_61105","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":482,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":21,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.4,"schoolId":61105,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pioneer Primary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pioneer Primary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/pioneer-school-district/pioneer-primary-school/61105"}
