As we read this book together in the fall, students worked on close reading skills like noticing character growth, interpreting symbolism, and discussing how an author shows change over time rather than just telling it. The book opened the door to meaningful conversations about empathy, resilience, and finding your place, which helped students connect literature to real life in a very personal way.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and social. Students read independently, but they also pause often to talk, question, and reflect together. They reread key passages to support their thinking, jot notes in the margins, and debate characters' choices with classmates. What changed everything was knowing the book didn't stay at school. Having their own copy to take home turned Okay for Now into something personal (I also wrote an individual note to each student where I shared with them many of their strengths I see in them). Students could revisit meaningful moments, read ahead if they were hooked, or simply sit with a favorite chapter on their own time.\r\n\r\nFor many students, especially those who don't always see themselves as \"strong readers,\" owning the book has been a big deal. Several students have talked about rereading chapters at home, showing pages to family members, or explaining why certain scenes mattered to them. That sense of pride and ownership carried back into the classroom, where students spoke up more, took risks in discussions, and felt confident sharing their ideas. This project gave them a story that followed them home and stayed with them.","fullyFundedDate":1764692985229,"projectUrl":"project/okay-for-now-book-copies/9931776/","projectTitle":"Okay for Now Book Copies!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Bishop","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8864555"},{"teacherId":8791909,"projectId":9859979,"letterContent":"The resources this project provided for my class helped students get excited about reading, engage with content for research, and got students engaged in their learning. The items that I was able to purchase have helped to create an organized, inviting, fun environment for my class this year. They made my transition back into the classroom seamless and enjoyable.\r\n\r\nEach week on Friday afternoons we do free choice Friday. I have 8 baskets full of engaging, fun items that students can play with. After teaching for 10+ years my free choice Friday baskets were looking less than enticing. With the help of your donations I was able to restock and purchase so many fun new items such as: Magnatiles, magnetic blocks, board games, play-doh, and new markers. \r\n\r\nIn addition to this, I was able to purchase things to help the room run smoothly such as a digital clock that includes the date and weather, a new set of student whiteboards, a few sets of high interest graphic novels, small timers for math games, and a class set of water bottles that students earn with good behavior! It has been such a good feeling to know I have a well stocked room full of all the supplies I need this year and I have been thankful every single day for the gift of your generous donation!","fullyFundedDate":1753564660158,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-comeback/9405032/","projectTitle":"Classroom Comeback","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wilbur","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4377913_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1490642227898","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4377913"},{"teacherId":8051965,"projectId":9347371,"letterContent":"my students were so screeching with excitement as they walked into class this morning as each students had a scientist coat and glasses to wear while diving into becoming zoologists.
