First grade students begin the year knowing the basics of letters, sounds, and simple words. Throughout the year we must supply them with the tools and opportunities to become readers. In order to do so, we must have high interest books at each of their just right reading levels. The donations for this project will help supply me with a high number of first grade level nonfiction books that can allow my students to learn about and experience things that they never have before. Creating students who become life long readers is the ultimate goal. The population I teach will highly benefit from this variety of nonfiction books. Many of them have not been immersed in these topics before and therefore lack the vocabulary needed to advance their reading skills. These books will fill the shelves in our classroom library and provide them with endless opportunities to fall in love with reading a good book!
