They stuffed 80+ goodie bags and these were delivered to our local community center. \r\n\r\nThe seniors were overjoyed as they got to take a gift bag. We were so excited to get to learn what plants need to grow this year. Teaching students that plants can grow without soil can be tricky as they grow up mostly seeing plants growing this way. The introduction of hydroponics helps students see that plants can successfully grow in all different types of conditions.\r\n\r\nWe are excited to get a small hydroponics project started at our school. Our goal is to grow our plants enough to be able to share them with our school community and our families. We hope they will be large enough by the end of the year.\r\n\r\nWhen we can make learning visible to students it makes so much of an impact. This year our Kindness Crew completed several service projects centered on kindness throughout our school community.\r\n\r\nIf you were to ask the 5th graders what their favorites were, they would tell you they loved getting to hang out with their 1st grade buddies throughout they year. They completed craft projects with them, made them small gifts like keychains and bracelets and played with them during recess. All in an effort to share their time and spread kindness. They also loved doing projects for the school staff. For example, during nurse appreciation week they made cards for our school nurses using the supplies from this project. \r\n\r\nWe also did a kindness campaign where posters were made throughout the school. It was really amazing to be able to do all these projects and have the supplies needed for them. We are excited to continue to spread kindness these last few weeks of school by delivering small plant cuttings to staff as a farewell gift before summer. The 5th graders have loved learning how to take care of hedgehogs and why they need toys to keep busy. Hedgie loves hiding out and getting to dark places during the day and his new blankets have been perfect for that.\r\n\r\nHedgie also loves his banana and likes to be carried around school in it. His favorite toy remains his wheel. At night and early in the morning he loves running in it.\r\n\r\nWithout your support we wouldn't have all these amazing toys for our Hedgie. They have already made a difference and we have only begun. Students in our building were sorted into groups with different grade levels and backgrounds. In these pictures you see them collaboratively working on a project that spread kindness throughout our school. Through this lesson, children learned to set goals and work together to accomplish them, show their support for one another, and persevere. These important concepts continued beyond that learning experience. For instance, my first grade class asked if they could meet with their groups to set additional goals all on their own! What a great demonstration of them taking the lead and ownership of their learning. At recess, we also observed students asking others to join them. This experience has brought them closer and has assisted in making others feel a part of our school family. They are developing skills that they will utilize throughout their lives. Your kindness helped make that a reality. Essentially, your kindness helped us further spread kindness. They made hundreds of them and we were able to spread them around the school and the community during National Kindness Week!\r\n\r\nThe bracelet making was so fun. This is a time designated for Math learning using manipulatives based on their needs and wants. The students get to go center to center learning and playing at the same time. This allows them the necessary time to reinforce the lessons learned and also introduce new and upcoming concepts. What started as a simple idea quickly became something real and meaningful.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful moments came during our first Snack Squad meeting. Students sorted and organized the snacks, created a simple inventory system, and designed a process so peers could access food. When they saw the bins filled and ready, they realized the real impact of their work. \r\n\r\nTheir reaction to the materials was excitement mixed with responsibility. They labeled bins, grouped items by type, counted inventory, and brainstormed ways to make the space welcoming. Instead of waiting for directions, students naturally stepped into leadership roles. Snack Squad quickly became part of our classroom identity.\r\n\r\nOur next steps focus on exploring other ways to serve.
