Some have been drawn to the picture books with graphics to further their conceptual understanding of fractions. Some have loved the biographies of mathematicians. Others have chosen the chapter books. I have watched students pair up to read books during our math enrichment time. Students have added books to their book bins to read over time. One of my girls just told me she thinks she read every book in my math library and could I please get some more.\r\n\r\nA math library provides another opportunity for students to see math as part of the real world, and not just an isolated subject confined to the walls of a classroom. We are adding a new bulletin board where students can showcase math in their real lives. This has been prompted, in part, to the reading they have done in class. I'm excited to see what they will come up with.\r\n\r\nThe donations you provided through Donors Choose have allowed me, as a teacher new to 5th grade math, to be more impactful with my instruction this year.
