Having these food items readily available has made a tremendous difference in their ability to focus and engage in learning. As educators, we know that it's incredibly difficult for children to concentrate, participate, and succeed academically when their basic needs aren't being met. Your donation directly addresses this challenge and helps create a more supportive learning environment.\r\n\r\nBeyond the academic benefits, I've also noticed a positive impact on classroom behavior. When students have access to food, they're calmer, more patient with themselves and others, and better able to regulate their emotions. This creates a more positive atmosphere where everyone can thrive.\r\n\r\nYour generosity reminds me that our community cares deeply about the well-being of our students. Because of you, my students now have meaningful tools to build empathy, emotional awareness, and connection in our classroom community.\r\n\r\nThe Spot book sets and plushies have quickly become a favorite during our morning meetings and which I incoperated with Second Step lessons. Students are able to identify how Spot is feeling and then relate those emotions to their own experiences. The emotion-identifying cards have helped my fourth graders put words to feelings that are often hard to express, especially for students who are still developing their language skills. This has made a powerful difference in how they communicate with one another and how they resolve conflicts. Plus, I notice that they tend to use them to identify their feeling any given time of the day without my directions. \r\n\r\nThe mini journals have given students a safe and private space for journaling and reflecting. Many of them now choose to write or draw when they are feeling overwhelmed, excited, or unsure. Our classromm has \"I Wish My Teacher New\" jar. Sometimes students refer the minibooks as \"I Wish My Teacher Knew\" notebook. \r\n\r\nThis has helped them regulate their emotions and better understand themselves. The \"Around the Globe\" bulletin board by the entrance to the classroom, has added a beautiful visual reminder that our classroom is a community made up of many cultures and stories. It has helped students feel proud of who they are and curious about others.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, our classroom feels calmer, kinder, and more connected. Your thoughtful gift of a laminator, candy rewards, and sensory lights demonstrates a true understanding of what our students need to thrive, and I cannot thank you enough for your support.\r\n\r\nThe Impact of Your Laminator Gift\r\n\r\nThe laminator you provided will be transformational for creating durable, professional visual supports that are essential for my students' success. I am excited to begin creating laminated visual schedules that will help my students navigate their daily routines with greater independence and confidence. These visual schedules serve as crucial communication tools, reducing anxiety and helping students understand expectations throughout their school day. The ability to create weather-resistant, reusable materials means I can develop picture cards, choice boards, and instructional materials that will last throughout the school year and beyond. Your gift will enable me to provide consistent, high-quality visual supports that are fundamental to effective special education instruction.\r\n\r\nMeaningful Rewards and Positive Reinforcement\r\n\r\nThe candy you included will serve as powerful motivational tools in our classroom reward system. For many of my students, tangible rewards like these treats provide the immediate positive reinforcement needed to encourage appropriate behaviors, task completion, and social skill development. These small but significant rewards will be carefully integrated into individualized behavior plans, helping students achieve their personal goals while building self-esteem and celebrating their accomplishments. Your understanding that positive reinforcement is crucial for student success shows your genuine care for special education learners.\r\n\r\nCreating a Calming Learning Environment\r\n\r\nThe sensory lights you provided address one of the most important aspects of special education - creating an environment that supports diverse sensory needs. These lights will help regulate the classroom atmosphere, providing calming visual input for students who may become overwhelmed by traditional fluorescent lighting. Many of my students experience sensory processing challenges, and these lights will create a more comfortable, focused learning environment where they can better concentrate on their academic and social goals. The ability to adjust lighting based on student needs throughout the day will significantly improve their overall classroom experience and learning outcomes.\r\n\r\nLooking Forward\r\n\r\nYour generous donation represents more than just classroom supplies - it represents an investment in the potential of every special education student who enters our classroom. These tools will help me provide more effective, individualized instruction while creating a supportive environment where all students can succeed. I am committed to using these resources thoughtfully and will be happy to share updates on how they continue to benefit our students throughout the year.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your incredible generosity and for believing in the importance of special education. Your support makes a real difference in the lives of students who deserve every opportunity to reach their full potential.","fullyFundedDate":1757007131401,"projectUrl":"project/visuals-candy-sensory-lights-and-soc/9314789/","projectTitle":"Visuals, Candy, Sensory Lights, and Social Skills - Oh My!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Pederson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4610300_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1501819719652","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4610300"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_56392","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":495,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":15,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"15.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":74.7,"schoolId":56392,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rainier View Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rainier View Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/federal-way-public-schools/rainier-view-elementary-school/56392"}
