From the first day, the students were drawn to the comfort and calmness of the space. Immediately, the blue chairs were put to use by the kids who were overstimulated by the newness of a classroom environment. So many of my students have never been in school, many of them coming from traumatic life events, so this space has been a safe-haven for them. All of the tools that we chose for the calm-down area have been working exactly as planned. Some of the students enjoy sitting with our large lap-dog Clifford, who is weighted and feels great just laying across a lap. Others are using the alien finger puppets to regulate their emotions. \r\nThe sensory area is also connected to the library, so sometimes it isn't even disregulated students that use it, but all children feel loved and safe in that area. They will pull out books, grab a reading buddy, and sit in a blue chair for some private reading time. Other popular items have been the weighted lap book, and some of the charts and pictures that are posted on the walls that are helpful in regulating emotions. \r\nOur entire class is so thankful to receive such an amazing gift!","fullyFundedDate":1782844390145,"projectUrl":"project/a-sensory-space-thats-out-of-this-world/10358836/","projectTitle":"A Sensory Space That’s Out Of This World!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tiffany","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8209959_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1782796562045","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tiffany-lafontaine"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_135427","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":null,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":33,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":false,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":6,"percentMultiracialImputed":11,"gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":80.0,"schoolId":135427,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about ECEAP @ Truman Campus on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"ECEAP @ Truman Campus","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/federal-way-public-schools/eceap-truman-campus/135427"}
