Post-Covid, many of our students are increasingly coming to school lacking in social emotional skills. They are lacking social and emotional competencies and well-being. \r\n\r\nThe research says that students who are explicitly taught these skills are more likely to: have stronger attendance over the course of a year, demonstrate improved academic achievement, and demonstrate higher rates of full-time employment in the future.\r\n\r\nStudents are enjoying these donations to our classrooms. These books offer rich opportunities for discussions about emotional regulation and how to have empathy for others. Hopefully, this will build up stronger mental health for students as well as better engagement and a more positive classroom environment.","fullyFundedDate":1784140039335,"projectUrl":"project/splendid-social-emotional-learning/10375803/","projectTitle":"Splendid Social Emotional Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3347303_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1449437978121","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/miss-smiths-class"},{"teacherId":5929349,"projectId":10232480,"letterContent":"Providing snacks and scheduled breaks during testing periods has demonstrated measurable improvements in student test scores across multiple studies. Their brains maintain the glucose levels necessary for sustained concentration, memory retrieval, and complex problem-solving. Strategic breaks and snacks allow students to reset their focus, reduce test anxiety, and return to questions with fresh perspective. \r\n\r\nDistricts that have adopted comprehensive snack-and-break protocols during high-stakes testing have documented significant gains in proficiency rates. Implementing structured 10-minute movement breaks every 60-90 minutes have seen pass rates increase by 8-15% among students who previously scored in the \"approaching proficiency\" range. These improvements aren't just statistical—they represent real students who can now demonstrate their true knowledge and skills when their basic needs are met during the testing process.\r\n\r\nWith that being said, as we continue to see our scores come in, we are seeing improvement in our reading and comprehension tests as well as in our writing. We are grateful for the generous donation and thoughtfulness during this standardized testing period.","fullyFundedDate":1778004695101,"projectUrl":"project/fuel-their-focus-and-feed-their-success/10232480/","projectTitle":"Fuel Their Focus and Feed Their Success!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Phillips","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5929349"},{"teacherId":6283990,"projectId":9576528,"letterContent":"What a wild and wonderful school year we have been having! My students and I are shouting a big thank you for funding some incredible new resources and tools! The visual timer is used every day, multiple times a day. The books have been so well loved and I am really looking forward to reading 'I Talk Like a River' with a new stuttering student this week. One of my original items was sold out, so I bought some play scarves as a replacement and OH MY, I can't tell you what a hit they have been in the 3 preschool classes I serve! Whole group musical scarf activities have been such a source of language rich opportunities and JOY!\r\nYou have filled my toolbox with new twistable crayons that won't be broken, sensory items, books to support language and literacy, and much more!
