We use the rug in our gather space all day, during math learning, reading, partner reading and special group projects. \r\nWhen the students and families saw our new rug, they lit up with excitement and immediately laid down to feel the softness and comfort the new rug had to offer. Students who have been in my class from previous years have visited and said how amazing the new space feels and the rug is so cheerful! \r\nIt's no longer a chore asking students to gather on the floor to learn, they happily meet on the carpet now that the space is more warm and inviting. My students have difficulty with regulating their emotions. I wanted to create a room where it has a calming affect on my students as well as to have sensory items for them to hold to help them with calming themselves. \r\n\r\nYour donations have made that possible. Social stories help students with learning how to control their behaviors and the books that were provided have been invaluable to my students. The trampoline has also helped with students who need movement. The surf portable lap desk has provided one of my students who has difficulty with physical movement a way to participate with the whole class during carpet time.\r\n\r\nOur classroom always needs manipulatives for different areas of of learning for our students who need visuals as well as moving items to help them learn. The preschoolers are loving everything (especially the playdoh)! When I brought out the box of playdoh every student wanted to play with it. Preschoolers strengthen the small muscles in their hands when playing with playdoh. This helps with pre-writing skill development before kindergarten. This amount will last us through this school year, and I am so thankful that I am not having to purchase it out of pocket.\r\n\r\nThe sensory materials are being used daily in the classroom and has really turned our classroom into a calmer space. Children are engaged in their learning and working cooperatively. They are learning to wait their turn and use their words to ask for a turn.
