These resources are providing texts that are both at grade level, and below grade level, but they are high interest and written for middle school students. One of the articles in the September issues is titled, \"Can You Trust Your Feed?\" which focuses on how half of teens get their news from social media; the articles pushes readers to examine whether teens are receiving the full story, highlighting disinformation, trustworthy sources, algorithms, and what students should do if they read a post that worries them. This is so applicable to all of our lives!\r\n\r\nIn addition, each article has online components that help to engage readers, the articles highlight vocabulary words, and I especially appreciate the \"Pause and Think\" activities that prompt students to take a moment before proceeding to answer a quick comprehension question. The magazines contain both fiction and non-fiction texts, they include colorful pictures, and many of the stories highlight young people's experiences and accomplishments. It is so great to have this resource for students. Thank you so much for your support!","fullyFundedDate":1750869613830,"projectUrl":"project/scholastic-magazines-in-the-classroom/9431303/","projectTitle":"Scholastic Magazines In The Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Roberson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9804655_orig.jpg?crop=599,599,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761761628189","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9804655"},{"teacherId":10003444,"projectId":9264284,"letterContent":"My math students last year benefited hugely from your thoughtful donation of calculators. These students were able to focus on their work without having to worry about whether or not their calculator was going to work. They also learned about responsibility as they were expected to return the calculators at the end of the class and faced consequences for not returning them. Students were frustrated that the old calculators kept going missing and that they would frequently be taken apart by classmates. \r\n\r\nStudents used the calculators almost every day and particularly enjoyed the fact that they never had to switch out their calculator due to the batteries dying. The calculators you donated also did not need bright lights to work. Many of my students found that they were able to focus better with the lights off and were so excited to have calculators that didn't require the lights to be on in order for them to work. I put a system in place where each student was assigned a calculator. Students rose to the occasion and accepted the responsibility of keeping track of their calculator so that it would be there for them the next day, and another student the next class period. With this system in place students learned a lot about responsibility. They started treating all their materials better and became more responsible for their space and for the wellbeing of other classroom items. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generous donation! My 7th graders from last year are grateful for the calculators. I am now teaching 6th grade science and my students in this class have also had the pleasure of using these wonderful tools once and will use them more in the future!","fullyFundedDate":1745698835182,"projectUrl":"project/quality-calculators-for-budding-mathemat/9264284/","projectTitle":"Quality Calculators for Budding Mathematicians","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jack","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10003444"},{"teacherId":9242038,"projectId":9215737,"letterContent":"When our new cleaning wipes and vacuum arrived, my students were so excited—they couldn't believe these resources were just for our classroom! We immediately put them to use by setting up a classroom \"clean team\" rotation. At the end of each lesson, students take pride in using the wipes to keep their desks, math manipulatives, and shared materials clean. The vacuum has been a game-changer as well—it helps us keep our classroom rug and work areas fresh, which makes the space much more inviting for group projects and discussions.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was seeing how eager students were to volunteer for cleaning jobs. Instead of it feeling like a chore, they treated it like a responsibility and a privilege. This has helped build a stronger sense of ownership and respect for our learning environment.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, our classroom feels brighter, safer, and more welcoming every single day. As we move into our next unit, students will be working in collaborative groups on math projects—and thanks to these resources, we can keep our shared spaces organized and ready for learning.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your generosity. Your gift has made a lasting impact not only on the cleanliness of our classroom, but also on the pride my students feel in caring for their space.","fullyFundedDate":1747854449231,"projectUrl":"project/a-clean-class-is-the-best-class/9215737/","projectTitle":"A Clean Class Is the Best Class!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tinsley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9242038_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1697085851704","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9242038"},{"teacherId":9242038,"projectId":9191063,"letterContent":"I can't thank you enough for your kindness in helping us provide snacks during standardized testing — it made such a difference for my students, in more ways than you might imagine.\r\n\r\nWhen they walked in that first morning and saw the table set up with snacks, you could just feel the shift in the room. There were wide eyes, surprised smiles, and a few happy gasps. One student whispered, \"Wait, this is for us?\" It was such a small moment, but it meant everything — they felt cared for, supported, and ready.\r\n\r\nTesting days can be long and draining, especially for young kids. But having a quick snack break gave them a chance to refuel and reset. It turned stressful mornings into calmer, more confident starts. One of my students, who usually gets really anxious during tests, said, \"The snack kind of helps me stop thinking too hard and just breathe.\" That moment stuck with me — it reminded me how much these little things matter.\r\n\r\nNow that testing is behind us, we're working on reflecting and setting goals for the rest of the year. We're talking a lot about what helped us stay focused, what we're proud of, and how we can carry those habits into other parts of our learning. Your donation was more than snacks — it was part of a bigger lesson on taking care of ourselves and showing up ready to try our best.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and for making our classroom feel just a little more like home during a stressful time. Before I selected these books I made sure they were geared toward a middle school audience, and I ensured that the authors reflected the experiences about which they were writing. Before this campaign I only had a couple of books that met this criteria; your donation allowed me to diversify my classroom library's offerings resulting in more choices for student engagement and enjoyment.\r\n\r\nThese books allow my students to consider experiences of humans they might not otherwise consider. This is so important because many of my students see and even know people with Arab heritage and backgrounds, but still they have little to no idea about their actual histories or lived experiences here in the United States. Your donation allows my students to be enriched in these areas--to learn some unique characteristics of these cultures, but also realizing the similarities we share in the human experience. \r\n\r\nAnd just as important, these additions to our library allowed my students who have Arab heritage and backgrounds to see themselves in our classroom. This certainly contributes to a welcoming environment and a sense of belongingness, two things I constantly strive for as a teacher.","fullyFundedDate":1744230344337,"projectUrl":"project/lets-build-up-our-classroom-library-wit/9242912/","projectTitle":"Let's Build Up Our Classroom Library with Arab American Representation!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Roberson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9804655_orig.jpg?crop=599,599,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761761628189","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9804655"},{"teacherId":9804655,"projectId":9000184,"letterContent":"Attached you will find a picture of my snack closet. These snacks are used for weekly raffles, for a class pick me up, and for students who simply are just hungry. I have a few students who ask me everyday for a snack for one reason or another. It's really hard to turn them away so I always make sure I have something to give them. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, I like to use snacks as incentives for reaching goals. I teach a reading intervention class and some of my students are reluctant readers. Asking students to do something they don't like or they find difficult can be challenging. Snacks make the everyday grind a little easier. I spend a lot of my own money, so you can imagine how appreciative I am for your support. The books provide opportunities for vocabulary growth, as students encounter new words within context and practice using them in their writing and speech.\r\n\r\nOne of the best aspects is how the new books promote cultural awareness. Many of the texts include diverse voices and perspectives, providing students with a broader understanding of the world around them and also allowing them to see characters similar to them. \r\n\r\nThe students are thriving with the new books we've introduced.
