Because of you, our students are not only excited about reading—they are growing as readers in meaningful and lasting ways.\r\n\r\nEach day, students take home book bags filled with books and decodable texts to practice at home. When they return their materials and read their decodables, they earn stickers toward filling up a bookmark and choosing a prize. It may seem simple, but this system has been incredibly powerful. Some of our students have already filled multiple bookmarks this year, and their pride and motivation are evident every single day.\r\n\r\nThe extra reading at home—especially with decodable texts—has made a tremendous impact. We are seeing students make significant gains toward reaching grade-level reading. Their accuracy and fluency have improved in ways that truly stand out, and their confidence has grown alongside their skills.\r\n\r\nFamilies are noticing the difference as well. During conferences, many parents shared how meaningful this practice has been for their children. Several even became emotional as they described the progress they've seen—the increased confidence, the smoother reading, and the joy their children now feel when picking up a book.\r\n\r\nYour donations have made this possible. The prizes may seem small, but they are a powerful motivator. They keep students engaged, excited, and eager to keep reading. Quite simply—the prizes keep the kids reading.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and helping build strong, confident readers. Our students—your kids and their classmates in Pre-K through 4th—ran an amazing 13,769 miles together, all during our two daily recesses!\r\nThat's more than halfway around the world, accomplished right here on our playground, one recess lap at a time. No after-school pickup changes, no extra schedules—just built-in fun that gets everyone moving during the breaks they already have.\r\nYour support helped incentivize those recess runs.\r\n We've seen the difference every day: shy kindergartners now leading the pack, friends cheering each other on lap after lap, and teachers noticing how much more focused and positive the kids are in class afterward. Recess isn't just playtime anymore—it's a daily chance to build health, friendships, self-esteem, and that \"I did it!\" feeling.\r\nWe're well into the current school year, and the recess running is still going strong thanks to supporters like you. The stories keep coming: a little one proudly announcing their new personal best at pickup, groups of friends turning recess into their favorite part of the day, and so many Beavers discovering they love to run.\r\nThank you for helping turn our two daily recesses into miles of smiles and growth. It means so much coming from parents who are right here in the Yacolt community with us, cheering on the same kids we all love.\r\nIf you want to peek at recess sometime, hear a fresh kid story, or chat about how things are going this year, please reach out—I'd love to connect.","fullyFundedDate":1764785059471,"projectUrl":"project/primary-running-club-2025-2026/9594672/","projectTitle":"Primary Running Club 2025-2026","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. A","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8019990_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1733628575156","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8019990"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_35568","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":752,"numTeachers":47,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":92,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":81.3,"schoolId":35568,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Yacolt Primary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Yacolt Primary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/battle-ground-school-district-119/yacolt-primary-school/35568"}
