It has been such a great experience. We can't wait to start our new book after spring break, Song of the Whale, which ties into our oceans science unit. While some students are still intrinsically motiveated most require a little more motivation than pride. \r\nWith this project we have an epic treasure box that has been so encouraging to my students. Homework comes in more often because after 4 completed assignments they get a treasure pull! They love earning classroom dollars to purchase something from the treasure box as well. \r\nOur treasure box now includes a variety of super fun toys, including squishies, slime and dinosaur eggs. These snack breaks refocus our attention on why we are at school by taking away some of the stress that happens outside of school. Adjustable stools are so cool. The addition of these four stools to our classroom has been really exciting for my students. The other 5th grade students are a bit envious of the fact that we have these in our classroom. My students have enjoyed being able to have the option to sit on the stools, stand at the desk or even use the rings of the stool to prop up their feet. We placed the standing desks at the back of the room so that it has even helped the way our room is organized. Our classroom is enjoying these stools and students love it when they get to choose these as their daily seats. With the funds from this project we were about to purchase among other things a fish tank. We are learning all about the care and cleaning of our tank. Students are responsible for feeding our 3 fish daily, and cleaning the tank bi-weekly. They are fascinated by our fish -- such a big hit!\r\nAdditionally, we purchased an ant farm. The joy these ants brought was so great. The changes of their habitat over time were fascinating and we have learned a lot about an ant's life.\r\nFinally, our subscription to Gimkit has provided many opportunities for us to practice our skills --game style. The headphones are helping to make our speaking practice less stressful because students find the headphones comfortable. \r\n\r\nMy students were very excited to use the headphones. They love that there is no microphone that they need to make sure is near their mouth.
